Sadly, hundreds of children \u2014 thousands \u2014 have been hospitalized, and as a dad of a child who has been hospitalized several years ago for another illness, I would never wish upon any parent they have a child that ends up in the hospital,\u201d Murthy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the vaccines have shown in these trials for children 5 through 11 they are more at 90 percent effective in protecting our kids from symptomatic infection,\u201d he continued, asserting they are \u201cremarkably safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murthy closed by urging parents: \u201cPlease consider strongly getting your children vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The remarks&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/cdc-panel-debates-should-all-school-kids-get-covid-vaccine\/\">follow<\/a> U.S. health officials approving of Pfizer\u2019s shots for children ages 5 to 11, with President Joe Biden similarly begging parents to \u201cplease\u201d get their children vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause here\u2019s the deal. Children make up one-quarter of the cases in this country and while rare, children can get very sick from COVID-19 and some can end up, few can end up hospitalized,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/biden-to-parents-of-kids-aged-5-11-please-get-them-vaccinated\/\">said<\/a> earlier this month, repeating the claim that the vaccine is \u201csafe and effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), \u201camong states reporting, children ranged from 1.7%-4.2% of their total cumulated hospitalizations, and 0.1%-2.0% of all their child COVID-19 cases resulted in hospitalization.\u201d The mortality rate among children <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/pages\/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections\/children-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report\/\">is<\/a> even lower, accounting for&nbsp;0.00 percent to 0.26 percent of all COVID-19 deaths. According to AAP, \u201c7 states reported zero child death,\u201d and \u201cin&nbsp;states reporting, 0.00%-0.03% of all child COVID-19 cases resulted in death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murthy\u2019s statement comes after the <em>Dallas Buyers Club<\/em> star, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/09\/23\/matthew-mcconaughey-confirms-hes-consideration-for-political-office-im-measuring-it\/\">flirting<\/a> with a gubernatorial run in Texas,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/11\/10\/matthew-mcconaughey-opposes-vaccine-mandates-for-children\/\">expressed<\/a> hesitancy on vaccinating children, breaking from many of his Hollywood peers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t mandate having to vaccinate the younger kids. I still want to find out more information,\u201d McConaughey told&nbsp;Andrew Ross Sorkin at the<em> New York Times<\/em> DealBook summit, although he made it clear that he is personally vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m vaccinated. My wife\u2019s vaccinated. I didn\u2019t do it because someone told me I had to \u2014 [I] chose to do it,\u201d the actor said. \u201cDo I think that there\u2019s any kind of scam or conspiracy theory? Hell no. We all got to get off that narrative.
