Josh Hawley\u2019s (R-MO) defense of traditional masculinity and his criticism of pornography.<\/p>\n<p>Hawley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawley.senate.gov\/senator-hawley-delivers-national-conservatism-keynote-lefts-attack-men-america\">delivered<\/a> a keynote address at the National Conservatism Conference in Orlando, Florida, in late October. During his address, he highlighted the need to strengthen and empower men so that they can serve as an \u201cunrivaled force for good.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>During his speech, Hawley lamented that too many men have withdrawn into the \u201cenclave of idleness, and pornography, and video games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"26\">\n<p>Responsibility is one of God\u2019s greatest gifts to mankind, and men must be held responsible for their actions.<\/p>\n<p>Still \u2026 can we be surprised that after years of being told they are the problem, that their manhood is the problem, more and more men are withdrawing into the enclave of idleness, and pornography, and video games.<\/p>\n<p>I found the comment by one young man to the Wall Street Journal particularly evocative, and particularly heartbreaking. He said, \u201cI\u2019m sort of waiting for a light to come on so I can figure out what to do next.\u201d I suspect he speaks for many.<\/p>\n<p>And while the Left may celebrate this decline of men, I for one cannot join them. No one should.<\/p>\n<p>The crisis of American men is a crisis for the American republic.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Senator Josh Hawley | \u201cThe Future of the American Man\u201d | National Conservatism Conference II\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mRzvinE4IaE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Hawley then told Axios\u2019s Mike Allen that he hopes to make masculinity a signature political issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to say that spending your time not working \u2026 spending your time on video games, spending your time watching <span class=\"il\">porn<\/span> online \u2026 is not good for you, your family or this country,\u201d Hawley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/newsletters\/axios-sneak-peek-7b303005-806d-48f4-9d1e-fdf88ddd2458.html?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter_axiossneakpeek&amp;stream=top\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hawley\u2019s criticism of men retreating into the \u201cenclave\u201d of pornography led to a virulent reaction from leftist pundits, politicians, and other figures.<\/p>\n<p>Jemele Hill, a contributing writer for the&nbsp;<em>Atlantic<\/em>, wrote, \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">If a Dem running against <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\"><a class=\"css-4rbku5 css-18t94o4 css-901oao css-16my406 r-1cvl2hr r-1loqt21 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\">@HawleyMO<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>doesn\u2019t run an attack ad that says Hawley is coming for your porn and video games, it\u2019s a missed opportunity.
