The epidemic in Heihe, located in China\u2019s Heilongjiang province, is linked to a nationwide coronavirus resurgence that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/11\/08\/china-blames-children-for-fueling-nationwide-coronavirus-outbreak\/\">swept<\/a> across 20 Chinese provinces since October 17. The body of water is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xinhuanet.com\/english\/2019-05\/31\/c_138106426.htm\">spanned<\/a> by a bridge that forms \u201ca key part of a 19.9 km-long highway project that links Jilin-Heilongjiang expressway in China and a highway in Blagoveshchensk,\u201d according to Xinhua.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Blagoveshchensk-Heihe highway bridge and its port facility officially opened on September 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2026 bridge will serve as a supplement to the existing rail link with Russia via Northeast China\u2019s ports of Manzhouli and Suifenhe, facilitating trade cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East,\u201d Zhang Hong, an Eastern European studies expert at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202109\/1233855.shtml\">told<\/a> China\u2019s state-run <em>Global Times<\/em> on September 9.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Zhang added that the bridge \u201cwill help boost people-to-people exchanges and imports of petrochemical products from Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia\u2019s petrochemical products can be directly transported to China via the bridge instead of being shipped to other more distant ports,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>The value of trade between China and the Russian Far East in the first half of 2021 was $5.82 billion, the <em>Global Times<\/em> reported on September 9 citing official Russian government data. An employee at the Heihe customs said Wednesday [October 27] was the last day that goods were allowed to enter Heihe through customs,\u201d the <em>Global Times<\/em> reported on October 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeihe customs had resumed freight handling in recent months since a coronavirus-triggered lockdown in 2020.
