Joe Manchin in early 2020, saying he \u201cis supposed to be on the Democratic side\u201d as she discussed Congress\u2019 hesitancy to increase government spending.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Saule Omarova has been accused of praising Marxist policies and wrote her college thesis titled \u201cKarl Marx\u2019s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cPeople like Joe Manchin, for example \u2013 supposed to be on the Democratic side- and yet feel very uncomfortable with big-spending ideas, right?,\u201d Omarova said. \u201cTo supplement that kind of fiscally constrained and politically constrained kind of spending, we need to make sure we have a strong public institution that can harness the existing abundant private capital and pull it in the right direction.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Omarova has drawn criticism from Democrats, making her nomination increasingly unlikely.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s nominee for the comptroller of the currency blasted Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin in early 2020, saying he \u201cis supposed to be on the Democratic side\u201d as she discussed Congress\u2019 hesitancy to increase government spending.<\/p>\n<p>Saule Omarova, who had been accused of praising Marxist policies, commented during a roundtable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AiCWDM0hKpY&amp;t=755s\">discussion<\/a> on May 20 about her proposal for a National Investment Authority. The authority would serve as a government institution independent of congress and the president directing public and private investments towards \u201cvital infrastructure and the real economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While attending Moscow State University, Omarova wrote a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&amp;cx=013858372769713515008:m9uq4uupsfm&amp;q=https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/14\/saule-omarova-office-of-the-comptroller-of-the-currency-marxism\/&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwi2vJ74nIz0AhWRhHIEHVFeAe4QFnoECAUQAg&amp;usg=AOvVaw3m-y8cW-4HE7mnT-qGzxVN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thesis<\/a> titled \u201cKarl Marx\u2019s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution.\u201d Republican Pennsylvania Sen Pat Toomey, the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, ordered Omarova to turn her thesis over to the committee, which she still hasn\u2019t done.<\/p>\n<p>Omarova refuted any ties to Marxist ideology, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b6f25404-480f-4a0b-9f65-ee80af442ba7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">telling<\/a> the Financial Times, \u201cI was in the Soviet Union, where there was no academic freedom, and this was a mandatory assigned topic. She argued for the National Investment Authority to direct money away from the oil and gas industry and towards \u201cclean and green\u201d infrastructure programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way we basically get rid of those carbon financiers is we starve them of their sources of capital,\u201d Omarova said.<\/p>\n<p>Omarova was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/20\/quintessential-ahole-industry-biden-treasury-nominee-financial-service-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quoted<\/a> in a 2019 Canadian documentary where she called the financial services sector an \u201casshole industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe financial services industry, in my view, and I don\u2019t think I\u2019m alone here, is the quintessential asshole industry,\u201d Omarova said in the documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/assholesatheory.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">titled<\/a> \u201cAssholes: A Theory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was also quoted praising the Soviet Union for its lack of a \u201cgender pay gap\u201d in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil I came to the US, I couldn\u2019t imagine that things like gender pay gap still existed in today\u2019s world,\u201d Omarova <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/20\/quintessential-ahole-industry-biden-treasury-nominee-financial-service-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> in 2019. \u201cSay what you will about old USSR, there was no gender pay gap there. Markets don\u2019t always know best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a book titled \u201cThe Seven Sins of Wall Street: Big Banks, Their Washington Lackeys, and the Next Financial Crisis,\u201d Omarova praised&nbsp;Marxism, saying how it altered her world views.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin the first year, my world changed,\u201d Omarova said. \u201cI became disillusioned with official Soviet ideology because of Karl Marx.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Omarova has drawn criticism from Democrats, making her nomination increasingly unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of Ms. Omarova\u2019s past statements about the role of government in the financial system raise real concerns about her ability to impartially serve at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and I\u2019m looking forward to meeting with her to discuss them,\u201d Democratic Montana Sen. and Banking Committee member Jon Tester <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/tester-biden-treasury-nominee-omarova-concerns\">told<\/a> Fox Business on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The White House told Fox Tuesday that the Administration would continue to support Omarova\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaule Omarova is eminently qualified and was nominated for this role because of her lifetime of work on financial regulations, including in the private sector, in government, and as a leading academic in the field. The White House continues to strongly support her historic nomination,\u201d a White House Official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/saule-omarova-joe-manchin-senate-banking-committee-white-house-nomination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Fox Business.<\/p>\n<p>The White House and Sens.
