The skull-like formation appears to have been added to a photo of Mount Fuji in Japan.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Day of the Dead, known in Spanish as \u201cDia de los Muertos,\u201d is celebrated in Mexico as a tribute to those who have passed away, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/day-of-the-dead-mexico.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>. The holiday takes place annually on Nov. 2, though festivities connected to the holiday begin Oct. 28, the outlet reported. Skull-shaped decorations are a Day of the Dead tradition, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecalifornian.com\/story\/news\/2021\/11\/02\/dia-de-los-muertos-more-than-orange-flowers-and-decorated-skulls\/6252827001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Salinas Californian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The image in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10223196810481443&amp;set=a.2025551511273&amp;type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nov. 1 Facebook post<\/a> appears to show lights forming the likeness of a skull wearing a sombrero above an urban area at night. A mountain can be seen in the background. Text accompanying the image identifies the lights as \u201cdrones in Mexico City this weekend.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/10\/28\/fact-check-drone-footage-chinese-troops-cargo-ship-coast-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show Drone Footage Of Chinese Troops On A Cargo Ship Off The Coast Of America?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is, however, no evidence it depicts a real drone formation over Mexico\u2019s capital. The Mexico City-based newspapers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eluniversal.com.mx\/resultados-busqueda\/drones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">El Universal<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.la-prensa.com.mx\/buscar\/?q=dones+skull\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La Prensa<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/heraldodemexico.com.mx\/noticias\/buscar\/?buscar=drones+skull\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">El Heraldo de M\u00e9xico<\/a> did not report on a display to that effect occurring over the city in connection to the Day of the Dead. Mexico City Head of Government Claudia Sheinbaum also did not reference such a drone performance in any of her <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=drones%20(from%3AClaudiashein)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/309693749208493\/search\/?q=drones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posts<\/a>, despite highlighting the use of drones in her city <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ClaudiaSheinbaumPardo\/posts\/1650496145128240\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at least once in the past<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Check Your Fact was unable to locate the origin of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10223196810481443&amp;set=a.2025551511273&amp;type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image in question<\/a>, it was likely created by digitally adding the skull-shaped light formation to a nighttime photo of Japan\u2019s Mount Fuji. The mountain and city lights closely resemble those visible in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/130700920@N08\/29707976154\/in\/photostream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2014 picture<\/a> of Mount Fuji at night with portions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Yamanashi,+Japan\/@35.5241219,138.3362087,10.17z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x601be3729342ee21:0x7304e8e48f9f6eaa!8m2!3d35.5400488!4d138.5897827\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yamanashi prefecture<\/a> in the foreground.
