Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1233428463-640x335-1.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Instead of taking full advantage of the economic possibilities of leaving the European Union, the British government may seek to impose border carbon taxes on imports from countries that do not live up to the green vision of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Secretary George Eustice said on Sunday that while the UK will seek to craft multilateral standards on the environment, a \u201ccarbon border tax\u201d would be an option for countries that do not curb their emissions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe would be saying, as countries, that we\u2019re taking the action necessary to deal with this global challenge, but we\u2019re not going to allow those producers in this country to be undercut by those who aren\u2019t doing their share, and we\u2019re not going to export pollution,\u201d Eustice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10174533\/UK-hike-taxes-imports-countries-fail-tackle-climate-change.html\">told<\/a> the BBC\u2019s <em>Andrew Marr<\/em> programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo if you don\u2019t want to export pollution, then you do at some point have to consider something like a carbon border tax,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Despite earlier hinting at such a prospect, the environment secretary said that he would not be in favour of imposing an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/02\/05\/punitive-green-policies-uks-conservative-govt-to-tax-meat-cheese\/\">arbitrary meat tax or meat levy<\/a>\u201c, saying that the tax has \u201cnever been on the cards\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is hosting the United Nation\u2019s COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow, Scotland called for the nations of the world to \u201cpull together and drive for the line\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCountries must come back to the table this week ready to make the bold compromises and ambitious commitments needed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Johnson has previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/02\/prophet-of-doom-boris-johnson-to-fly-home-on-private-jet-from-glasgow-climate-summit\/\">warned<\/a> that the world is \u201cone minute to midnight on that doomsday clock\u201d in the face of the supposed climate crisis and therefore requires a global deal to reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.7924528301887\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hypocrites Cleared to Land: Glasgow Climate Conference Draws 400+ Private Jets <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/th2e6WqEIh\">https:\/\/t.co\/th2e6WqEIh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1455513773045919753?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Prior to the UK officially leaving the European Union, Brexiteers, including current government minister Jacob Rees-Mogg had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2018\/05\/14\/soros-backed-miliband-parade-has-beens-campaign-kill-brexit\/\">argued<\/a> that prices for consumers on items such as clothing and footwear would fall as a result of being freed from the EU\u2019s tariff regime.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, should a carbon border tax be implemented, it could compromise the ability of the average person to see such savings.<\/p>\n<p>This would come on top of the rising costs of energy and investments into supposedly green technologies to meet Prime Minister Boris Johnson\u2019s net-zero emissions pledge, which the&nbsp;Institute for Fiscal Studies finding that it would cost Britain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/10\/21\/nyet-coming-vladimir-putin-to-snub-boris-big-climate-summit\/\">trillions of pounds<\/a> over the next three decades. The think tank predicted that the lion share of the cost would be born by consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, the government\u2019s planned carbon border tax falls in line with a similar policy from the European Union, which announced earlier this year a proposal for a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/qanda_21_3661\">carbon border adjustment mechanism<\/a>\u201d that would impose penalties on pollution caused by foreign companies if their own governments do not punish the industries.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Brexit, the British public has not been afforded the ability to weigh in on the nominally Conservative government\u2019s green agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Brexit leader Nigel Farage has said that he may take up the issue as his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/10\/29\/brexit-leader-farage-pushing-for-referendum-on-green-taxes-could-be-my-latest-campaign\/\">next campaign<\/a>&nbsp;and push for a referendum.
