Mike Parson (R) signed SAPA, which was contained in HB 85.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>WLBT&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wlbt.com\/2021\/06\/12\/gov-parson-signs-hb-85-into-law-creating-second-amendment-preservation-act-missouri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">noted<\/a>&nbsp;that SAPA \u201cprohibits the enforcement of federal gun laws by local law enforcement agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parson commented on SAPA, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>Throughout my law enforcement career and now as Governor of the state of Missouri, I have and always will stand for the Constitution and our Second Amendment rights. This legislation today draws a line in the sand and demonstrates our commitment to reject any attempt by the federal government to circumvent the fundamental right Missourians have to keep and bear arms to protect themselves and their property.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On November 5, 2021, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/11\/05\/politics\/gun-control-fears-state-second-amendment-laws-invs\/index.html\">explained<\/a> that legislators \u201cin at least 17 states have introduced bills this year taking aim at possible federal gun restrictions.\u201d They noted that the bills in the 17 states vary in degree but suggested that Missouri was a state that went too far in the language used against federal gun control.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_17668474\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"37\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1144341731.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17668474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1144341731.png\" alt=\"Missouri Governor Mike Parson addresses the media on the last day of legislative session at the Missouri State Capitol Building on May 17, 2019 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Thomas\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>CNN spoke with University of Illinois\u2019 Professor Alexandra Filindra about Missouri\u2019s law, and Filindra described it as \u201cpart of an ideological system\u201d which rests on the assumption \u201cthat the other side \u2014 in this case, the Democrats \u2014 are devious and intent on taking political rights away and imposing a socialistic tyranny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Filandra added, \u201cInformation that conflicts with this narrative is dismissed. Saying Biden is a Democrat and coming for your guns is a great way to motivate anger and get people to vote in the midterm, especially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On November 7, 2021, CBS News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/missouri-gun-law-second-amendment-preservation-act-60-minutes-2021-11-07\/\">spoke<\/a> with two prosecutors who have issues with SAPA.<\/p>\n<p>Butler County, Missouri, prosecutor Kacey Proctor said, \u201cWhat I oppose about it, and what I would ask for to be\u2013 to be looked at and possibly fixed is the ability for law enforcement officers to interact with their federal partners to go after people who are violent in nature and are\u2013 committing crimes in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CBS News also spoke with Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sheriff Danny Whiteley, who quit working with federal agents on gun investigations after SAPA took effect.<\/p>\n<p>KMIZ&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/abc17news.com\/news\/2021\/06\/12\/governor-parson-signs-hb-85-establishing-second-amendment-preservation-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">pointed out<\/a>&nbsp;upon signing SAPA, Gov.
