The pipeline is owned by a Canadian company named Enbridge.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Enbridge is already fighting multiple state and federal court battles to keep the pipeline open. According to <em>Detroit News<\/em>, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metrotimes.com\/news-hits\/archives\/2021\/11\/05\/michigan-tribes-send-letter-to-biden-asking-him-to-back-line-5-shutdown\">has<\/a> already \u201crevoked and terminated Enbridge\u2019s easement with the state last fall and ordered a Line 5 shutdown by the spring, which the company is resisting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tribes sent a letter to the Biden-Harris administration Friday to request their \u201chelp\u201d in terminating an \u201cexistential threat to our treaty-protected rights, resources, and fundamental way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tribes also called on President Biden to honor his campaign promise to \u201cprotect\u2026 fundamental interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>They argue the oil pipeline infringes on the&nbsp;1836 Treaty of Washington, \u201cwhich ceded Ojibwe and Odawa lands in Michigan in exchange for fishing, hunting and gathering rights on the treaty territory.\u201d But Jason Hayes,&nbsp;director of environmental policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, believes canceling the pipeline would violate an agreement with Canada that allows the pipeline to flow between the two North American countries.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18652834\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"37\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1233292929.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18652834\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1233292929-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt width=\"990\" height=\"660\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Flags reading \u201cStop Line 3\u201d and \u201cWater is Sacred\u201d hang on a wire in the campsite on the White Earth Nation Reservation near Waubun, Minnesota, on June 5, 2021. (KEREM YUCEL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Sunday warned gas prices <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/07\/energy-secretary-granholm-hopes-gas-doesnt-hit-4-a-gallon\/\">could<\/a> reach $4.00 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, we certainly hope not,\u201d Granholm replied when asked on CNN if the \u201caverage gas price in America be $4 a gallon in the United States soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president is all over this. Of course, every president is frustrated because they can\u2019t control the price of gasoline, because it\u2019s a global market. You can call upon increased supply, which he has done,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd OPEC is, unfortunately, controlling the agenda with respect to oil prices. OPEC is a cartel and it controls over 50 percent of the supply of gasoline,\u201d Granholm claimed.<\/p>\n<p>AAA estimated Monday the national average gas price <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/news\/\">is<\/a> $3.422 per gallon, more than <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2021\/10\/11\/gas-prices-triple-crude-oil-above-80-supply-shortage-4-dollars-per-gallon\/\">three<\/a> times greater than 2020 prices.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s request for OPEC to increase the supply of gasoline comes as the administration&nbsp;blocked the&nbsp;Keystone XL oil pipeline by canceling the project\u2019s permit in January.&nbsp;The construction of the pipeline was begun under Donald Trump\u2019s administration after years of delay under Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p>The 1,200-mile pipeline \u201cwould have moved up to 830,000 barrels (35 million gallons) of crude daily, connecting in Nebraska to other pipelines that feed oil refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast,\u201d the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-joe-biden-keystone-pipeline-canada-environment-and-nature-141eabd7cca6449dfbd2dab8165812f2\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Follow Wendell Huseb\u00f8 on Twitter&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WendellHusebo?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\"><em>@WendellHuseb\u00f8<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden-Harris administration on Monday reportedly began weighing the closure of a Michigan\u00a0oil pipeline while gas prices have\u00a0tripled since 2020.
