She was 26.<\/p>\n<p>Mendon\u00e7a\u2019s press office confirmed her death in a statement, and said four other passengers on the flight also perished. Their plane crashed between Mendon\u00e7a\u2019s hometown Goiania and Caratinga, a small city in Minas Gerais state located north of Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Minas Gerais state\u2019s civil police also confirmed Mendon\u00e7a\u2019s death, without providing details about the cause of the accident, which occurred shortly before arrival. Her Instagram account has 38 million followers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI refuse to believe, I just refuse,\u201d Brazil soccer star Neymar, who is a friend of Mendon\u00e7a\u2019s, said on Twitter after the news broke. Brazil\u2019s government also offered its condolences.<\/p>\n<p>Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also used social media to mourn the passing \u201cof one of the greatest artists of her generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire country receives the news in shock,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Her album \u201cEm Todos os Cantos\u201d won her the 2019 Latin Grammy for best sertanejo album.
