Laura Kelly condemned President Joe Biden\u2019s federal vaccine mandate Friday, saying she does not believe the \u201cdirective\u201d is the \u201cmost effective\u201d solution for the state, despite Biden\u2019s intentions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday, I reviewed the new vaccine mandate from the Biden Administration. While I appreciate the intention to keep people safe, a goal I share, I don\u2019t believe this directive is the correct, or the most effective, solution for Kansas,\u201d Kelly said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.kansas.gov\/governor-laura-kellys-statement-addressing-new-federal-vaccine-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"6.6951219512195\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Governor Laura Kelly\u2019s statement addressing the new federal vaccine mandate: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lAFAs3pQLK\">pic.twitter.com\/lAFAs3pQLK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Laura Kelly (@GovLauraKelly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovLauraKelly\/status\/1456627100593659906?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 5, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cStates have been leading the fight against COVID-19 from the start of the pandemic,\u201d Kelly continued.&nbsp;\u201cIt is too late to impose a federal standard now that we have already developed systems and strategies that are tailored for our specific needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Kansas politicians, mainly Republicans, criticized the mandate. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/05\/osha-vaccine-mandate-fine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden Admin Threatens $10,000 Fine, Jail Time For Lying About Vaccination Status)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe Biden promised to \u2018shut down the virus.\u2019 He failed,\u201d Kansas Republican Party Chairman Mike Kuckelman said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wibw.com\/2021\/11\/04\/kansas-republicans-voice-disapproval-new-osha-covid-19-vaccine-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WIBW<\/a>. \u201cHe promised there would be no vaccine mandates. He lied. Now, he wants Kansans to lose their jobs if they don\u2019t comply with his unconstitutional vaccine mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile vaccines are a safe way to protect against the virus, the federal government has no authority to force this mandate on private businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 54% of Kansans have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansasvaccine.gov\/158\/Data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">data<\/a> from the state\u2019s Department of Health and Environment.<\/p>\n<p>The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/04\/private-businesses-january-4-joe-biden-vaccine-testing-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released guidance<\/a> Thursday detailing specific requirements for employers with 100 or more employees mandating the vaccine or weekly testing. Employees have until Jan. 4 to get vaccinated before being forced to provide weekly negative tests.<\/p>\n<p>The mandate has been met with <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/04\/job-creators-network-vaccine-mandate-covid-19-coronavirus-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">several lawsuits<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Kansas Gov.
