Nathan Sheppard, a Portland police spokesperson, said detectives consulted with the Oregon Department of Justice, Oregon State Police and Multnomah County District Attorney\u2019s Office and determined no crimes were committed during the autopsy. He said civil laws may have been violated, including those that forbid certain postmortem examinations of bodies and place restrictions on the disposition of unclaimed bodies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"inarticle-10\" readability=\"49\">\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cWhen Saunders\u2019 wife donated her husband\u2019s body to Med Ed Labs, she recalls she was told the Las Vegas-based company would use his body for research and return his cremated remains in an urn,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">She did not know his body would be dissected at a hotel for an audience, DiLeo explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cAs far as I\u2019m concerned, it\u2019s horrible, unethical, and I just don\u2019t have the words to describe it,\u201d Elsie Saunders, the wife of David Saunders, said. \u201cI have all this paperwork that says his body would be used for science \u2014 nothing about this commercialization of his death.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">However, media company Death Science bought the body from Med Ed Labs to use during a \u201cCadaver Lab Class\u201d held for the <a href=\"https:\/\/odditiesandcuriositiesexpo.com\">Oddities and Curiosities Expo<\/a>, which is a traveling event geared toward \u201clovers of the strange, unusual and bizarre,\u201d the OregonLive.com report said.<\/p>\n<div readability=\"8\">\n<p>Another Cadaver Lab Class that was set to take place on Halloween in Seattle was reportedly canceled prior to the event.<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pay-per-view autopsy event canceled in Seattle after criticism\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qIiLqQ2tTPs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>DiLeo said the event was hurtful to the scientific community and Saunders\u2019 wife, who requested that Med Ed Labs return her husband\u2019s body to Louisiana instead of performing cremation because she did not trust them to send the correct remains.<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u2018Where\u2019s the body?\u2019 Widow of man dissected at autopsy event wants remains back\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-Y2tVaC_XJ8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The body of an elderly man was dissected before a paying audience at a downtown Portland, Oregon, hotel last month.
