The supply chain crisis has fueled price increases in nearly every sector of the economy for American families and workers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Of the nearly 160 ships waiting to dock and offload cargo, Marine Exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MXSOCAL\/status\/1456030338556350470?s=20\">estimates<\/a> 102 vessels are containers ships waiting to move cargo onto the docks, including 76 ships that are anchored or loitering outside the bay.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.265486725664\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ship Report 11\/3: 159 total ships inport LA\/LB including 101 at anchor or loitering &amp; 58 at berths. Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/10\/19\/record-breaking-100-ships-anchored-waiting-at-los-angeles-and-long-beach-ports\/\">reported<\/a> October 19 that 100 ships were delayed from delivering goods \u2013 a record-breaking amount. Near the end of September, 60 ships were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/pre-viral\/2021\/09\/25\/upwards-of-60-container-ships-waited-to-port-in-california-this-week-posing-looming-ramifications-for-supply-chains\/\">reported<\/a> to be anchored and waiting to unload.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The backlog of vessels is due to the overflowing amount of containers at the ports. The ports are unable to move the containers onto trains or trucks quickly enough to keep up with supply. The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a rule in May that requires supply chain points to hire electric vans or trucks instead of trucks that have larger capacity, the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/california-supply-chain-la-port-shipping-container-storage-becerra-newsom-biden-ab5-11636056049\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the state\u2019s Air Resources Board has required truckers to reduce trucking emissions, making it more costly and difficult to transport freight from ports to warehouses.<\/p>\n<p>Truck drivers, many of whom are immigrants, must not only keep up with California\u2019s burdensome regulations, they are required to finance their own trucks, along with repairs.<\/p>\n<p>If the truckers are late on a payment, become sick, or do not have money to repair the truck, the trucking companies fire the driver and repossessed the truck, along with any equity the driver has invested, <em>USA Today<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/pages\/interactives\/news\/rigged-forced-into-debt-worked-past-exhaustion-left-with-nothing\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers who are not fired&nbsp;\u201csometimes end up owing money to their employers\u201d and are unable to get out from under the debt. Unable to repay their employer, drivers essentially work for free, never able to earn much money.<\/p>\n<p>As red tape and labor exploitation has impacted California\u2019s truckers, the industry has fallen short of recruiting enough truckers to fill demand. In October, the American Trucking Association (ATA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/10\/20\/record-high-bidens-supply-chain-crisis-is-short-80000-truck-drivers\/\">revealed<\/a> the trucking industry was short 80,000 drivers, 30 percent more than before the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, the trucking industry represents 71 percent of transported goods.
