And to be honest, it\u2019s hard to enjoy it as much when there\u2019s the physical pain that you\u2019re dealing with on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI halfway joke with our training staff about being done five years ago. But I don\u2019t know how far of a stretch that\u2019s really off without the work they were doing daily, with a history of an ankle injury and then a hip. It was just getting to the point where things that I was enjoying were not as joyful anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Posey returned for the 2021 season after sitting out the 2020 campaign \u2014 which was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic \u2014 in order to be with his wife and their two recently adopted twins.&nbsp; In 2019, Posey experienced his worst season as a professional.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt allowed me to \u2026 really, really empty the tank this year like I never have before,\u201d Posey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/32554925\/san-francisco-giants-buster-posey-retires-citing-family-physical-toll-game\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe year off probably played into the decision a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Posey leaves the game a seven-time All-Star with .302\/.372\/.460 splits as a hitter.
