Dusty Johnson (R-SD) is leading an effort to get U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to address the supply chain crisis across the country, including changing the federal policy that prevents truck drivers under the age of 21 from crossing state lines.<\/p>\n<p>A bipartisan group of 80 house members sent a letter to the transportation department asking for the change.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cDOT [Department of Transportation] is asleep at the wheel,\u201d Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/dustyjohnson.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/johnson-dot-asleep-wheel\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cAmerica is dealing with a supply chain crisis and the Biden administration isn\u2019t taking tangible steps to fix the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The request is actually requesting formal approval of an already existing DOT pilot program that lowers the age of truck drivers allowed to cross state lines to include those ages 18 to 20.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis pilot program could add more than 3,000 truck drivers to an industry that desperately needs workers,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_18491378\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"36\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/port-los-angeles-cargo-containers-night-supply-chain-getty.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18491378\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/port-los-angeles-cargo-containers-night-supply-chain-getty.jpg\" alt=\"portside workers\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trucks operate at the Port of Los Angeles during nighttime operations on October 25, 2021, in San Pedro, California. Josh Harder (D-CA) also signed the letter, according to a Fox News report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment needs to get out of the way and let our businesses and workers do what they do best,\u201d Harder said. \u201cI\u2019m calling on the Biden administration to cut the ridiculous red tape so our truck drivers can get to work and our economy can get moving again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmid the growing supply chain crisis,&nbsp;drivers in the&nbsp;trucking industry&nbsp;have&nbsp;stepped up to ensure&nbsp;the&nbsp;timely delivery of&nbsp;goods. Yet&nbsp;even with their efforts,&nbsp;there simply aren\u2019t enough&nbsp;truckers&nbsp;on the road&nbsp;to meet the demand,\u201d the letter says. \u201cAs our supply chain issues continue to grow, we should be doing everything we can to fix the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/supply-chain-buttigieg-truck-driver-under-21-pilot-program\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>Johnson also argued at a Wednesday hearing that getting people involved in trucking younger would not only help the economy but also their economic futures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGetting people connected younger presumably would help them make better careers even earlier,\u201d Johnson said at a hearing Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Six Democrats joined 73 Republicans in signing the letter.<\/p>\n<p><i>Follow Penny Starr on <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PennyStarrDC\"><i>Twitter<\/i><\/a><i> or send news tips to pstarr@breitbart.com.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
