The total cost of the payouts would reach $1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the payouts on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/03\/joe-biden-backs-off-450k-payouts-to-border-crossers-not-going-to-happen\/\">Biden said<\/a>, \u201cthat\u2019s not going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.7748344370861\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Biden Backs Off $450K Payouts to Border Crossers: &#8220;Not Going to Happen&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ybf8qYKAQh\">pic.twitter.com\/Ybf8qYKAQh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1456096107965132805?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>On Thursday, though,&nbsp;White House deputy press secretary&nbsp;Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed border crossers could secure payouts \u201cif it saves taxpayer dollars\u201d and suggested that Biden does not have much say in a DOJ settlement despite his comments on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it saves taxpayer dollars and puts the disastrous of the previous administration \u2026 and family separation behind us, the president is perfectly comfortable with the Department of Justice settling with the families who are currently in litigation with the U.S. government,\u201d Jean-Pierre said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president \u2026 what he was reacting to was the dollar figure \u2026 as press accounts today indicate, there have been press accounts on this, DOJ made clear to the plaintiffs that the reported figures are higher than anywhere that a settlement can land,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>The back-tracking from the White House on Biden\u2019s previous comments came as the ACLU ripped into the president for denying that border crossers will secure payouts in the settlement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden may not have been fully briefed about the actions of his very own Justice Department,\u201d ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The payouts to border crossers would be a massive win for pro-mass immigration groups and the open borders lobby \u2013 securing a settlement that would exceed the compensation rewarded to the victims of the September 11, 2001 Islamic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/29\/bidens-450k-reparations-for-border-crossers-exceeds-payments-to-9-11-victims-american-military-families\/\">terrorist attacks<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/31\/bidens-450k-border-crossers-nearly-double-payments-given-boston-bombing-victims\/\">Boston Marathon<\/a> bombings.<\/p>\n<p>Analysis by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has calculated that with the money potentially going to border crossers, the federal government could feed thousands of poor American families, house tens of thousands of homeless Americans, and forgive the student loan debt of nearly 30,000 American college students and graduates.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John Binder is a reporter for Breitbart News.
