Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS) sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Wednesday pledging to block any funding of President Joe Biden\u2019s \u201ccoercive\u201d federal Chinese coronavirus vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is wrong\u2014morally, legally, and constitutionally. Accordingly, we will oppose all efforts to implement and enforce it with every tool at our disposal, including our votes on spending measures considered by the Senate,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.senate.gov\/press-releases\/sen-marshall-leads-effort-to-defund-the-vaccine-mandate\/\">letter reads in part<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The lawmakers sent the letter a day before the Occupational Safety and Public Health Administration (OSHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/04\/joe-biden-administration-warns-of-planned-inspections-and-136532-fines-to-enforce-coronavirus-vaccine-mandate\/\">released<\/a> an emergency temporary standard (EMS) on Thursday,&nbsp;which requires employers with more than 100 employees to \u201cmaintain a roster of each employee\u2019s vaccination status\u201d and enforce weekly testing requirements for unvaccinated workers. The rule, which involves \u201cplanned inspections,\u201d goes into effect January 4, and those who fail to adhere will face fines beginning at $14,000 per violation.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/09\/09\/joe-biden-will-try-to-impose-covid-vaccine-mandate-on-all-businesses-with-100-or-more-employees\/\">first announced<\/a> the federal mandate on September 9, 2021, despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/09\/09\/broken-promises-joe-biden-jen-psaki-rochelle-walensky-rejected-federal-vaccine-mandates\/\">repeatedly promising<\/a> to keep vaccination optional. Originally, the mandate was supposed to go into effect by December 8 \u2014 Sen. Marshall accused Biden on Thursday of putting off the mandate to avoid being blamed for more inflation and labor shortages heading into the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe Biden\u2019s vaccine mandate is going to create more supply chain blocks and that\u2019s going to lead to more inflation \u2013 of course Joe Biden knows this so he\u2019s decided to hold off on enforcement until after the holidays. I will continue to do everything in my power to put a stop to this unconstitutional mandate,\u201d Marshall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.senate.gov\/press-releases\/sen-marshall-statement-on-osha-vaccine-mandate-rule\/\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In the letter to Schumer, senators pointed to several examples of how catastrophic vaccine mandates have already been for the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The letter continued [hyperlinks added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Chicago, which has no shortage of violent crime, may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/20\/chicago-mayor-lori-lightfoot-police-should-not-ruin-their-careers-over-vaccine-reporting-rules\/\">lose nearly one-third<\/a> of its police force to the city\u2019s vaccine mandate.<\/li>\n<li>In New York City, sixteen percent of Emergency Medical Service workers and thirty percent of firefighters remained unvaccinated as of October 29th, which was the city\u2019s deadline for these first responders to be vaccinated. The immediate result was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/local\/2021\/10\/31\/reports-nyc-short-firefighters-ems-stemming-vaccine-mandate\/\">closure of twenty-six fire stations<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>According to recent analysis by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollcall.com\/2021\/10\/19\/senators-call-to-suspend-pentagon-vaccine-mandate-sets-up-clash\/\">Roll Call<\/a>, based on Pentagon data, as many as 400,000 troops have not received a single dose of the vaccine.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to the impact on our troops, Raytheon CEO Greg Hayes recently<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/02\/workers-boeing-fedex-revolt-against-bidens-vaccine-mandate\/\"> told CNBC<\/a> that, as a result of the mandates, the company would lose several thousand of the defense contractors that support our military.<\/li>\n<li>Trucking companies affected by the mandates could lose thirty-seven percent of their workforce, as estimated by the American Trucking Associations. This in the middle of a supply chain crises where the nation already faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/10\/20\/record-high-bidens-supply-chain-crisis-is-short-80000-truck-drivers\/\">shortage of 80,000 truck drivers<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Recently, pilots for Southwest Airlines staged a protest of the impending vaccine mandate. In just one weekend, Southwest Airlines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/10\/southwest-cancels-1800-flights-days-pilots-fight-vaccine-mandates\/\">had to cancel 1,800 flights<\/a>, costing the company $75 million.<\/li>\n<li>According to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll, seven in ten unvaccinated workers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox10phoenix.com\/news\/72-of-adults-would-leave-job-over-covid-19-vaccine-mandate-survey-says\">9% of all adults<\/a>) would quit their job if required to get the vaccine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The senators noted that those who have decided to remain unvaccinated will not \u201csuddenly accept coercion\u201d and that the choice is \u201ctheir God given right.\u201d They further said that any attempt to blame the \u201cimpending catastrophe\u201d on the unvaccinated would be misplaced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden chose to employ unnecessarily coercive methods. President Biden made a bet that he could force people to comply with his edicts by threatening their livelihoods. He was so sure of his winning hand that he wagered the machinery that allows our nation to function,\u201d the letter reads. \u201cWhen he loses that bet the blame will be fully his. It is wrong to gamble with people\u2019s livelihoods. It is unwise to bet that Americans will cave to petty tyranny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter continued, arguing that Biden does not even have the constitutional authority to enforce his \u201cbreathtakingly vindictive\u201d federal vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt does, however, vest in Congress \u2014 the branch of the federal government most accountable to the people at the most regular intervals \u2014 the exclusive power to fund all federal endeavors. We intend to use that power here to make sure that this mandate never takes effect,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people have gone through enough. Please do not become an accessory to such a willful act of barbarism. The people stand with us on this issue because we stand with them, and neither we nor they take kindly to extortion. We invite and implore you to join us in our efforts to protect them,\u201d the letter concluded, which was also signed by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Steve Daines (R-MT), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Mike Lee (R-UT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers on the House side are also refusing to back Biden\u2019s mandate. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/04\/rep-mo-brooks-introducing-one-sentence-measure-block-federal-vaccine-mandate\/\">introduced<\/a> a one-sentence measure to block the federal vaccine mandate on Thursday, coinciding with the release of OSHA\u2019s requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks\u2019s legislation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/brooks.house.gov\/sites\/brooks.house.gov\/files\/BROOKS_057_xml.pdf\">Defund Federal Vaccine Mandates Act<\/a>, is a one-sentence bill, which simply states that \u201cno Federal funds may be used to establish, implement, or enforce any vaccine mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongress needs to be put on record on where they stand on this issue.
