However, an Edison Research <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2021-elections\/virginia-governor-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exit poll<\/a> showed that McAuliffe received 66% of the demographic\u2019s votes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, polling in general has a real problem: We\u2019re getting low response rates across the board, and that\u2019s not limited to Hispanic voters, but it\u2019s even harder when you poll smaller groups,\u201d Eduardo Gamarra, a Latino vote pollster, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/11\/04\/latino-poll-virginia-youngkin-mcauliffe-519425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Politico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact is, we probably don\u2019t know who won the Hispanic vote or by how much on Tuesday,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I can tell you from my research that what we have been seeing is a real message for the Democrats, who are not getting behind issues that really speak to Latinos. It\u2019s a reason we\u2019re seeing the shift.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7315296\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"37\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7315296\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Democratic gubernatorial candidate, former Virginia Gov. (Photo by Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Latino community only makes up less than 10% of the Virginia electorate, but the high level of scrutiny over the group\u2019s vote stems from former President Donald Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/12\/joe-biden-mike-garcia-nicole-malliotakis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gains in the demographic<\/a> in the 2020 presidential election. Though President Joe Biden won a majority of the Latino vote, his share shrunk from Democrats\u2019 numbers in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>A number of Hispanic-heavy precincts in New Jersey, where the Democratic incumbent managed a slim victory against his opponent, shifted to the right compared to the 2017 gubernatorial election. However, not all precinct-level data in the state is readily available, Politico reported. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/03\/byron-brown-india-walton-buffalo-chuck-schumer-alexandria-ocasio-cortez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Democratic Mayor Who Lost His Primary To A Socialist Is On Track To Win The Election As A Write-In)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Edison Research poll also showed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/elections\/how-white-women-helped-propel-republicans-victory-virginia-n1283153\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">white women<\/a> swung more towards Republicans than in 2020, with 57% voting for <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/02\/van-jones-glenn-youngkin-delta-variant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Youngkin<\/a>. White women without a college degree also shifted right from the presidential election, swinging 13 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt now that someone not named Trump can recreate the Trump coalition \u2014 and make gains among suburban voters,\u201d Patrick Ruffini, a Republican data analyst, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-virginia-election-2020-campaign-2016-1e50b5d47eac70e65bed5be5b9fa7fa4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> the AP. \u201cIt means a lot of states are in play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
