An eight-year-old girl who was injured died a short time later in hospital and two other girls, aged seven and eight, are also in serious danger.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Initially, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/gesellschaft\/kriminalitaet\/verkehrsunfall-in-hessen-fahrer-soll-kinder-vorsaetzlich-erfasst-haben-17612990.html?GEPC=s30\">report<\/a> from the newspaper <em>Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em>, investigators believed that the fatal crash had been accidental, but witness testimony has led them to believe the Turkish man purposely targetted the children.<\/p>\n<p>The public prosecutor\u2019s office in Kassel also stated that the preliminary opinion of an expert has led them to reclassify the case as murder.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.4081632653061\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Police are investigating after a car sped through a pedestrianized street in the German city of Trier on Tuesday afternoon, a \u2018rampage\u2019 that left at least two dead. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TclczEXTMA\">https:\/\/t.co\/TclczEXTMA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1333806608019836928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 1, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Investigators say at this time there is no evidence that the attack was motivated by terrorism and the 30-year-old is believed to have a history of psychiatric illness. They say his severe psychiatric illness may have played a major role in the alleged attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mood in the village has been very depressing since Friday, regardless of whether it was an accident or intentional,\u201d&nbsp;Witzenhausen mayor Daniel Herz said.<\/p>\n<p>Vehicles have been used as weapons in several terrorist attacks across many European countries in recent years, most notably the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2016\/07\/14\/truck-crashes-crowd-celebrating-bastille-day-several-dead\/\">2016 Nice attack<\/a> in France that left 87 people dead.
