The <a href=\"https:\/\/employee.hr.lacounty.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Executive-Order-COVID-19-Vaccines-for-LACo-Employees.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mandate<\/a> orders all county workers be fully vaccinated by Oct. 1. Villanueva <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/08\/los-angeles-county-sheriff-alex-villanueva-not-enforcing-county-vaccine-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">originally announced<\/a> days after the mandate took effect he would not be enforcing it out of fear he\u2019d lose up to 10% of his workforce.<\/p>\n<p>Villanueva said Tuesday slightly more than half of his employees are fully vaccinated. But when broken down, just 42.8% of officers are vaccinated while 67.2% of professional civilian staff are, Fox 11 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/villanueva-claims-more-than-4000-lasd-employees-face-termination-over-vaccine-mandate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff estimated 4,185 employees face losing their job over the county mandate, with approximately 3,200 of those being officers. What would the department look like?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>He also pointed to the recent jump in early retirements as reason not to enforce the vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are not happy with the vaccine mandate,\u201d Villanueva said. \u201cThe fact that we\u2019re seeing the uptick, we\u2019re attributing that to the vaccine mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn criticized Villanueva\u2019s decision, calling for \u201cleadership, for once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be clear about what is actually at stake with Sheriff Villanueva refusing to enforce the @CountyofLA vaccine mandate,\u201d Hahn tweeted Tuesday. \u201cThe number one killer of law enforcement officers nationwide this past year has been COVID.
