(Photo by Chris Unger\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But Cunningham, who is black, feels that Gruden got mistreated throughout the whole controversy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI tell him, I said, \u2018Hey, I know you as a person. I don\u2019t believe you\u2019re a racist in any faction of the game,\u2019\u201d said Cunningham. \u201cIf anybody pulled up our records, we would all be guilty. So, I don\u2019t condemn him nor do we as a church condemn him. He\u2019s a faithful person, and I love that about him. And he cares about people, so it\u2019s kind of just what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gruden also praised Cunningham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve attended his church since I\u2019ve been here,\u201d Gruden told Yahoo. \u201cHe\u2019s the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gruden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2021\/10\/11\/raiders-jon-gruden-resigns-amid-controversy-over-racial-emails\/\">resigned<\/a> last month, saying that he did not want to be a \u201cdistraction\u201d for the Raiders as they began the NFL season.<\/p>\n<p>Gruden resigned after a <i>New York Times<\/i> report that claimed Gruden used racist and anti-gay language in emails during a seven-year period starting a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/demaurice-smith-executive-director-of-the-national-football-league-picture-id160439391\" alt=\"DeMaurice Smith, Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association, addresses the media at the NFL Players Association annual...\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>NEW ORLEANS, LA \u2013 JANUARY 31: DeMaurice Smith, Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association, addresses the media at the NFL Players Association annual state of the union press conference in the media center on January 31, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
