Climate Conference in Glasgow Tuesday, in which he compared the effects of climate change to those of World War II.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wounds inflicted on our human family by the Covid-19 pandemic and the phenomenon of climate change are comparable to those resulting from a global conflict,\u201d the pope said in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/messages\/pont-messages\/2021\/documents\/20211029-messaggio-cop26-glasgow.html\">message<\/a> to COP26, read aloud in Glasgow by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cToday, as in the aftermath of the Second World War, the international community as a whole needs to set as a priority the implementation of collegial, solidary and farsighted actions,\u201d the pontiff continued.<\/p>\n<p>A little further along, Francis returned to the same analogy, forecasting that \u201cin the near future, environmental migrants will be more numerous than refugees from war and conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his message, the pope urged the world\u2019s leaders to take up \u201cthe vital task of demonstrating to the entire international community whether there really exists a political will to devote \u2013 with honesty, responsibility and courage \u2013 greater human, financial and technological resources to mitigating the negative effects of climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_18593066\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"42\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/AP21306633840123.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18593066\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/AP21306633840123.jpg\" alt=\"Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin speaks at the COP26 Summit, in Glasgow, Scotland, Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021. (Daniel Leal Olivas \/Pool Photo via AP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There is \u201cno alternative\u201d to battling climate change, he stated, underscoring the importance of \u201cthe goals set by the Paris Agreement\u201d in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Adopting still more hyperbolic language, the pope said that humanity faces \u201can epochal change,\u201d while pressing wealthier nations to \u201ctake a leading role in the areas of climate finance, decarbonization in the economic system and in people\u2019s lives, the promotion of a circular economy, providing support to more vulnerable countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is \u201cno denying\u201d that wealthier nations have a growing \u201cecological debt\u201d to poorer nations because of their \u201cdisproportionate use\u201d of natural resources, Francis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe developed countries ought to help pay the ecological debt by significantly limiting their consumption of nonrenewable energy and by assisting poorer countries to support policies and programs of sustainable development,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n<p>The lives of countless people, particularly those who are most vulnerable, have experienced the \u201cincreasingly frequent and devastating effects\u201d of climate change, he asserted.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tdwilliamsrome?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @tdwilliamsrome<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROME, Italy \u2014 Pope Francis sent a striking message to the U.N.
