The president called the initial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/biden-administration-in-talks-to-pay-hundreds-of-millions-to-immigrant-families-separated-at-border-11635447591\">report<\/a> from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) \u201cgarbage,\u201d agreeing that the media\u2019s reporting \u201cmight incentivize more people to come over illegally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 940 illegal immigrant families have filed lawsuits against the U.S. government, alleging that the Trump administration\u2019s policy of separating children from adults with whom they crossed the border caused psychological distress. They are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), whose lead negotiator argued that the illegal immigrants must receive \u201cnot only meaningful monetary compensation, but a pathway to remain in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The average requested payout is $3.4 million per family, according to WSJ. The plaintiffs also alleged that the children were denied medical attention and suffered from malnutrition while in government custody.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveDaines\/status\/1453821367837679620\">Congress<\/a> and former Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/29\/nothing-like-this-ever-history-stephen-miller-flames-insane-idea-450k-compensation-illegal-immigrants\/\">officials<\/a> blasted the reported settlement, arguing that it would incentivize more illegal immigration. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/08\/ice-detention-decline\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Number Of Detained Illegal Immigrants Declines As ICE Arrests Hardly Anyone)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More than 3,000 children were separated from parents or guardians beginning in 2018 as part of a zero-tolerance policy for illegal immigration <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/04\/06\/sessions-zero-tolerance-border-crossing\/\">announced<\/a> by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
