This large decline indicates that SB 8\u2019s very narrow criteria for providing in-state abortion care have excluded many pregnant people from obtaining abortions at Texas facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that many facilities maintained pre-SB 8 staffing levels in the face of reduced patient volume, coupled with the increased availability of financial assistance for abortion care, may have prevented even greater declines.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.5261437908497\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Asked for a reaction to a statement by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone who said this week that the abortion bill is \u201cchild sacrifice,\u201d Nancy Pelosi declared that the Archbishop and I \u201chave a disagreement.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/358YnEbgcE\">https:\/\/t.co\/358YnEbgcE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1441770928870858769?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 25, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report lamented that \u201cthe number of abortions provided at in-state facilities may decline further the longer SB 8 remains in effect,\u201d and expressed concern for low-income women in Texas who will not be able to obtain abortions prior to evidence of a fetal heartbeat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, given the decreased client volume, facilities may need to cut staff or reduce clinic hours,\u201d the study noted. \u201c[T]his may lead to delays in appointment scheduling and more patients becoming ineligible for in-state abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.34628975265\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Valerie Huber, former U.S. special representative for Global Women\u2019s Health, said U.S. foreign aid is funding an \u201cideological\u201d campaign abroad \u201cpromoting abortion [and] destruction of the family.\u201d  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eq8ImGZe2b\">https:\/\/t.co\/eq8ImGZe2b<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1454632043728486405?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Other states have passed \u201cheartbeat\u201d bills, but, once signed into law, abortion rights activists filed lawsuits challenging them. Subsequently, courts have blocked these laws, ruling they are unconstitutional in light of the Supreme Court\u2019s 1973 ruling in&nbsp;<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>&nbsp;and subsequent decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas measure, however,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/19\/texas-gov-greg-abbott-signs-heartbeat-bill-law\/\">contains<\/a>&nbsp;a unique enforcement mechanism whereby any private citizen may file a civil lawsuit against an abortion provider or any other individual who \u201caids or abets\u201d a \u201ccriminal abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law\u2019s civil enforcement mechanism limits actions taken to violations of the \u201cheartbeat\u201d ban, i.e., abortions sought after a fetal heartbeat is detected.<\/p>\n<p>The study\u2019s authors predict some women \u201cwill be forced to continue their pregnancies, which is associated with adverse health and economic consequences for women and their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.8793103448276\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So saving black innocent babies with beating hearts is an act of\u2026&#8221;white supremacy&#8221;?
