The photo was created by a Slovakian artist, who said it shows his childhood friends.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/elon-musk\/?list=rtb\/&amp;sh=4afe586b7999\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forbes<\/a> ranked Musk first on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/real-time-billionaires\/#2e6c9cf53d78\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">real-time billionaires list<\/a> as of Nov. 2, with an estimated net worth of roughly $306.5 billion. He was born in South Africa in 1971 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/08\/03\/world\/elon-musk-fast-facts\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/10\/04\/fact-check-video-south-african-zulus-protesting-covid-vaccination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show South African Zulus Protesting Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination?)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Oct. 27 Instagram image shows a robot with its arms around two children. \u201c#ElonMusk (on the right) at his #Tech school in #SouthAfrica with #Chappie his #Robot he had been building,\u201d the post\u2019s caption reads. \u201cNow #dieantwoord is from #south #africa and wouldn\u2019t you know #yolandivisser and #ninja happen to #star in the movie Chappie from 2015 wth (<em>sic<\/em>) the same Robot.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm4375497\/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yo-Landi Visser<\/a> is a South African rapper who appeared in the 2015 science fiction film \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Chappie-Hugh-Jackman\/dp\/B00UBRJJ6S\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chappie<\/a>,\u201d the story of an advanced robot.<\/p>\n<p>The photo does not actually show Musk as a child, nor is the robot Musk\u2019s creation. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artstation.com\/artwork\/0nVZmY\">photo<\/a> shared on ArtStation in March 2021 by Slovakia-based 3D artist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/henrich-kimerling-96587279\/?originalSubdomain=sk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrich Kimerling<\/a>. \u201cI am not a robot,\u201d text accompanying the image reads. \u201cPhotography from \u2013 Project David (Digital Artwork containing Photos, web design, 3D print model and animations ) I have replaced myself on the photos with the robot model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artstation.com\/artwork\/XnW3Dy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">indicated<\/a>&nbsp;on ArtStation that he had produced the image showing the robot in 2007 as part of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artstation.com\/artwork\/XnW3Dy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Project David<\/a>,\u201d his academic work about a fictional robot.&nbsp;The original photo showed Kimerling with two friends when they were children and was taken between 1987 and 1994, Kimerling told Check Your Fact in an email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes. I created this image ( photo montage ),\u201d Kimerling said. \u201cIt is part of my diploma work I did back in 2007 at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An internet search turned up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=young+Elon+Musk+robot+Chappie&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=nws&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjvjo-O7PzzAhXyQd8KHUFTDAQQ_AUoAnoECAEQBA&amp;biw=1920&amp;bih=911&amp;dpr=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no mention<\/a> of Musk building a robot named \u201cChappie\u201d as a child.
