The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/katie-porter-climate-change-oil-gas-house-oversight-committee\/\">hearing<\/a> and subpoenas center around the fossil fuel industry\u2019s alleged campaign to spread false information stretching back decades. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/03\/environmentalists-joe-biden-white-house-vladimir-putin-natural-gas-oil\/\">(RELATED: Environmentalists Are Making Putin Stronger Than Ever)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The six entities provided thousands of already-public documents, including press clippings, regulatory filings and pages from their websites, ahead of the hearing, Democrats said. But Maloney and Subcommittee on the Environment Chair Ro Khanna <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/oversight-committee-launches-investigation-of-fossil-fuel-industry\">wanted<\/a> the corporations and interest groups to provide the committee with documents and communications \u201crelated to their organization\u2019s role in supporting disinformation\u201d related to climate change.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7314331\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"33\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7314331\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Democratic California Rep. (Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThese productions did not include a substantial portion of the documents and communications requested by the Committee, even for the priority categories of documents and key custodians identified by Committee staff,\u201d Maloney wrote in the memo.<\/p>\n<p>Khanna previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/27\/democrats-ro-khanna-carolyn-maloney-oversight-committee-big-oil-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> that the committee\u2019s probe into \u201cBig Oil\u201d could ultimately stretch into a year-long investigation involving multiple hearings. He likened the probe to a 1990s investigation into \u201cBig Tobacco\u201d headed by former Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman of California.<\/p>\n<p>Maloney <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/chairwoman-maloney-subpoenas-top-fossil-fuel-entities-for-key-documents\">argued<\/a> that the actions were necessary, noting previous GOP committee chairs\u2019 proclivity to issue subpoenas. She added that she has been relatively \u201cselective\u201d with taking such drastic measures.<\/p>\n<p>The New York congresswoman gave the entities until Nov. 16 to provide the requested documents, the subpoena drafts <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.oversight.house.gov\/files\/Final%20Fossil%20Fuel%20Subpoenas.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe received the subpoena. We have been cooperating with the committee since their first contact months ago,\u201d ExxonMobil spokesperson Casey Norton said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cWe have provided almost 130,000 pages of documents, including internal emails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An API spokesperson said the group would continue cooperating with the Oversight Committee \u201cconsistent with our right to associate and engage in free speech to address the challenge of climate change while producing affordable and reliable energy\u201d in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Chevron, BP America and Shell didn\u2019t immediately respond to requests for comment from the DCNF.
