The witness acknowledged that demonstrators set fires and some were upset that others in the area were putting out those fires. Rosenbaum may have been one of the men shouting that he was upset about the fires being put out.<\/p>\n<p>Washington made a note of Rittenhouse in his mind, too, he said, over the teen \u201cchain smoking cigarettes with gloves on,\u201d finding him \u201cnervous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rittenhouse stood out because he seemed \u201cyoung,\u201d Washington said, and \u201cdidn\u2019t know what was going on. \u2026 He seemed nervous in the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess a lot of people were nervous,\u201d Washington added, \u201cIt\u2019s not a slight at [Rittenhouse], it\u2019s just a mental note that I took.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As highlighted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-prosecutor-lists-numerous-alleged-crimes-of-man-kyle-rittenhouse-fatally-shot-downplays-as-irrelevant\">The Daily Wire<\/a>, prosecution during pre-trial made note of Rosenbaum\u2019s alleged poor behavior on the night of the incident, attempting to illustrate that there\u2019s \u201cno factual commonality\u201d between his prior alleged actions and the shooting:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMr. Rosenbaum started fires that night,\u201d prosecution said. \u201cWell, that has nothing to do with the allegation that he chased after Mr. Rittenhouse and tried to physically attack him. Arsonist \u2014 or alleged arson, has nothing to do with an alleged physical assault. Therefore, it was okay for the defendant to kill him.\u2019\u00a0That\u2019s really what\u2019s going on here, your honor.\u201dIt seems the prosecution is trying to extinguish the narrative that Rosenbaum is a \u201cbad guy,\u201d which has been circulating in news reports since the fatal shooting. For example, Rosenbaum\u2019s criminal history and alleged sexual abuse of minors surfaced online after the riot.Snopes reported\u00a0that the claim Rosenbaum was \u201cconvicted of sexually abusing at least one child\u201d is \u201ctrue,\u201d per criminal records:For example, yes, at age 19, Rosenbaum was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing five children \u2014 all boys between the ages of 9 and 11 \u2014 in Arizona\u2019s Pima County in early 2002, according to his case file obtained via a public records request by Snopes.The documents said Rosenbaum was temporarily living with the boys\u2019 parents after his mother had kicked him out for disobeying her rules about one month earlier. Over the course of his weeks-long stay, Rosenbaum molested the boys, showed them porn, and performed oral sex on them, among other offenses, the documents showed. He was sentenced to prison for roughly 15 years, and authorities believed at the time \u201chis risk to recidivate being of great concern to the community\u201d considering the victims\u2019 gender and age. (Let us note here: The records included an interview with Rosenbaum in which he said his stepfather sexually abused him and his brother on an almost daily basis when he was a preteen.)Considering that evidence, the claim that Rosenbaum at one point was convicted of sexually abusing at least one child before his death was true.The prosecution, of course, is arguing past sins are irrelevant to the shooting.Rittenhouse was 17 years old when he was arrested for fatally shooting Rosenbaum and one other man, as well as injuring a third during unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
