Terry McAuliffe conceded to Republican governor-elect Glenn Youngkin in the Virginia gubernatorial race on Wednesday morning. His public acknowledgement came after multiple news outlets called the race for his GOP opponent shortly after midnight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile last night we came up short, I am proud that we spent this campaign fighting for the values we so deeply believe in,\u201d McAuliffe said in a statement. \u201cWe must protect Virginia\u2019s great public schools and invest in our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe must protect affordable health care coverage, raise the minimum wage faster, and expand paid leave so working families have a fighting shot,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe must protect voting rights, protect a woman\u2019s right to choose, and, above all else, we must protect our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile there will be setbacks along the way, I am confident that the long term path of Virginia is toward inclusion, openness and tolerance for all,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>McAuliffe, while thanking his family for their support, also congratulated Youngkin on his victory. \u201cI hope Virginians will join me in wishing the best to him and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"3.8518518518519\">\n<p lang=\"und\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/y6DyoHlJPu\">pic.twitter.com\/y6DyoHlJPu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Terry McAuliffe (@TerryMcAuliffe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TerryMcAuliffe\/status\/1455894456801038346?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 3, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Youngkin, who initially came into the race as an underdog, built up momentum in recent months on the campaign trail. He&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/03\/governors-race-winner-glenn-youngkin-change-democrat-virginia\/\">said<\/a> during his victory speech in the early hours Wednesday morning he will transform the&nbsp;commonwealth from the beginning of his time in office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether, we will change the trajectory of this commonwealth, and, friends, we are going to start that transformation on day one,\u201d Youngkin said.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cIt\u2019s time for Virginia to be the place where everyone wants to live, not leave, a place where the relentless pursuit for a better life for prosperity is not burdened or blocked by self-interested politicians who are more focused on their futures than those they were elected to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Virginia made history Tuesday by electing now-Lieutenant Governor-elect&nbsp;Winsome Sears \u2014 a Republican \u2014 by&nbsp;defeating Democrat Hala Ayala in Virginia\u2019s lieutenant governor race and becoming the&nbsp;first black woman to hold statewide office.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18588434\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"37\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1236308979.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18588434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1236308979-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt width=\"990\" height=\"660\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate, former Virginia Gov. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/02\/the-cavalry-has-arrived-lieutenant-governor-elect-winsome-sears-makes-victory-speech\/\">victory speech<\/a> Tuesday, she noted the United States had come a long way since the Civil Rights movements while&nbsp;bashing the left for trying to divide Americans.&nbsp;\u201cThere are some who want to divide us, and we must not let that happen\u2026&nbsp;In case you haven\u2019t noticed, I\u2019m black, and I\u2019ve been black all my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a historic night, but I didn\u2019t run to make history \u2014 I just wanted to leave it better than I found it,\u201d Sears said, concluding her speech before introducing her Youngkin. \u201cHold on, Virginia, help is on the way \u2014 the cavalry has arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
