In the state\u2019s 15th District, which extends southeast from the Columbus suburbs, Trump-endorsed coal lobbyist Mike Carey cruised to victory, defeating Democratic state Rep. Allison Russo.<\/p>\n<p>Brown led with over 80% of the vote and Carey was ahead with about 58% when the New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/11\/02\/us\/elections\/results-ohio-special-congressional-elections.html?action=click&amp;pgtype=Article&amp;state=default&amp;module=styln-elections-2020&amp;region=TOP_BANNER&amp;context=election_recirc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a> each race.<\/p>\n<p>The special election in Ohio\u2019s 15th district was to succeed Republican Rep. Steve Stivers, who <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/19\/steve-stivers-announces-retire-congress-ohio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resigned<\/a> in May to lead the state\u2019s Chamber of Commerce. Though Carey was favored to win, high-profile Republicans including former Vice President Mike Pence <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOP\/status\/1454576856611627028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">campaigned<\/a> in-person with Carey in the days ahead of the election, while President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Russo4Ohio\/status\/1455179567409287176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a> Russo Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Brown\u2019s victory in the 11th District&nbsp;means that she will succeed former Democratic Rep. Marcia Fudge, who <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/10\/senate-confirms-marcia-fudge-housing-urban-development-secretary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resigned<\/a> in March to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Though Brown was all but guaranteed to win in a seat that voted for Biden by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2012\/11\/19\/1163009\/-Daily-Kos-Elections-presidential-results-by-congressional-district-for-the-2012-2008-elections\">over 60 points<\/a> in 2020, her general election could not have been more different than her primary, where she overcame a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/poll-ohio-nina-turner-shontel-brown-tied\/\">double-digit deficit<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/03\/nina-turner-shontel-brown-ohio-congress-special-election\/\">beat former state Rep. While Turner, who supported the \u201cdefund the police\u201d movement and called for universal healthcare continuously, earned <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/22\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-endorses-candidate-compared-voting-biden-eating-bowl-nina-turner-ohio\/\">endorsements<\/a> from many in the party\u2019s left wing, many moderates \u2014 who already held Turner in low esteem \u2014 raced to endorse Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I try to do is demonstrate by precept and example how we are to proceed as a party,\u201d said South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, the number three Democrat in the House, when explaining his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/30\/jim-clyburn-shontel-brown-nina-turner-bernie-sanders-ohio-special-election\/\">decision to endorse Brown<\/a>. \u201cWhen I spoke out against sloganeering, like \u2018Burn, baby, burn\u2019 in the 1960s and \u2018defund the police,\u2019 which I think is cutting the throats of the party, I know exactly where my constituents are. They are against that, and I\u2019m against that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown also earned endorsements from the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/08\/congressional-black-caucus-hillary-clintons-ohio\/\">Congressional Black Caucus<\/a>, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and over a dozen House Democratic moderates. Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShontelMBrown\/status\/1454096815318519813\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a> Brown on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Once Brown and Carey are sworn in, the House makeup will be 221-213, maintaining Democrats\u2019 three vote margin.<\/p>\n<p>The one remaining House vacancy lies in Florida\u2019s 20th District, represented by Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings until his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/06\/alcee-hastings-dies-cancer-florida-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">death in April<\/a>.
