The case was closed back then, but now, Heard is being investigated for allegedly committing perjury during the dog smuggling incident.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations came out during Depp\u2019s libel lawsuit last year against a British tabloid. During that case, Depp\u2019s former estate manager testified that Heard asked him to lie under oath for her after she was charged with illegally importing the dogs into Australia. As E!News&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/amber-heard-under-investigation-perjury-181500229.html\">reported<\/a>, Heard didn\u2019t obtain a permit for the dogs prior to bringing them into the country on a private jet and without having them quarantine for two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter Australian\u2019s agriculture minister&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/656600\/australia-threatens-to-put-down-johnny-depp-s-dogs\">threatened to have the dogs euthanized<\/a>&nbsp;unless they \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gMQ_SyEXvu4\">buggered off<\/a>&nbsp;back to the United States,\u2019 Depp and Heard had the dogs flown back, again on a private jet,\u201d E!News reported. \u201cFacing the prospect for a maximum 10-year prison sentence,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/757567\/amber-heard-avoids-jail-in-australian-dog-smuggling-case-records-awkward-apology-video-alongside-johnny-depp\">the actress pleaded guilty<\/a>&nbsp;to a lesser charge of falsifying a travel document to sneak the dogs into the Australia. Her lawyer told the court the actress was jetlagged, worried about a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/641311\/johnny-depp-s-hand-injury-prolongs-delays-on-walt-disney-pictures-pirates-of-the-caribbean-dead-men-tell-no-tales\">hand injury that Depp suffered during filming<\/a>&nbsp;<em>Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales<\/em>, and believed her assistants had sorted out the paperwork for the dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In April 2016, Heard agreed to a \u201cone-month $1,000 good behavior bond,\u201d according to Yahoo. In the United Kingdom, a judge determined that Depp had physically abused Heard on 12 out of her 14 accusations. As The Daily Wire reported, Depp lost that case in large part due to the difficulties in proving libel cases. Depp had to prove that he\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0abuse Heard \u2014 essentially he had to prove a negative. And while a judge in the U.K. acknowledged that Depp was able to cast doubt on at least two of Heard\u2019s allegations, he failed to disprove her other 12 allegations.Depp\u2019s attorneys called the ruling \u201cperverse\u201d and \u201cbewildering,\u201d pointing out the mountain of evidence the judge appeared to have ignored in arriving at his decision.\u201cMost troubling is the Judge\u2019s reliance on the testimony of Amber Heard, and corresponding disregard of the mountain of counter-evidence from police officers, medical practitioners, her own former assistant, other unchallenged witnesses and an array of documentary evidence which completely undermined the allegations, point by point. All of this was overlooked,\u201d said Depp\u2019s attorney Jenny Afia. \u201cThe judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr. Depp not to appeal this decision.\u201dIn response to the reopened investigation against Heard, her attorney criticized the Australian government.\u201cThe Court of Depp\u2019s choice \u2013 the London High Court of Justice \u2013 found that Depp committed at least 12 acts of domestic violence against Amber Heard, causing her at times to fear for her life,\u201d Heard\u2019s attorney said in a statement to E!
