(AP Photo\/Cliff Owen)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 9:03 AM PT \u2013 Tuesday, November 2, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>Republican congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said the weaponization of the Department of Justice to target parents who oppose critical race theory may backfire on Democrats in upcoming Virginia elections.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jordan, the memo by Attorney General Merrick Garland and the DOJ labeling dissenting parents as \u201cdomestic terrorists\u201d is an assault on the First Amendment. He said for many parents, this assault on their rights is the last straw and they won\u2019t stand for it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think your memo is the last straw, I think it\u2019s a catalyst for this reawakening in freedom,\u201d stated the Republican lawmaker. \u201cWhen government starts telling parents, hey \u2018we\u2019re smarter about your kids than you are,\u2019 I don\u2019t think moms and dads are going to take it. And it sort of functions as the last straw.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 LATE BREAKING: House Judiciary Republicans just sent a letter to 93 United States Attorneys requesting information&nbsp;about&nbsp;Attorney General Merrick Garland&#8217;s&nbsp;directive&nbsp;to&nbsp;spy on parents at school board meetings. <\/p>\n<p>Read the letters here: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8f5m03SPTF\">https:\/\/t.co\/8f5m03SPTF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 House Judiciary GOP (@JudiciaryGOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryGOP\/status\/1455364440929579010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jordan added, Attorney General Garland must rescind that memo because it\u2019s illegal and wrong. He then pointed out GOP candidate Glenn Youngkin may win in the Virginia gubernatorial election due to blow back from parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe attorney general doing his memorandum, which basically the committee sets up a reporting mechanism, a snitch-line on parents who just want to show up at school board meetings and say \u2018hey don\u2019t teach this racist American curriculum to our kids,&#8217;\u201d Jordan continued. \u201cAnd for that they\u2019re going to have the full wave of the Justice Department looking over their shoulder.
