President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2020\/results\/state\/virginia\/president\">won<\/a> those three counties by a combined 369,467 votes during his 2020 presidential election victory, nearly 82% of his total margin of victory in the state. Both candidates understand that if Youngkin can keep his margins in those three counties close, he will have a strong chance to win the governorship.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin hopes that a focus on education will help him improve his margins among these suburban voters, many of whom swung Democratic during the Donald Trump presidency. Biden improved on former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 margins in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William by about 98,000 votes. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/16\/republicans-take-education-fight-to-voters-with-congress-slow-to-act\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Republicans Take Education Fight To Voters With Congress Slow To Act)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During an appearance at the Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, the Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/577504-youngkin-calls-for-investigation-into-loudoun-county-school-board-amid\">promised<\/a> a ban on critical race theory (CRT) and an investigation into the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/29\/loudoun-county-alleged-sexual-assault\/\">mishandling<\/a> of sexual assault <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/22\/loudoun-county-superintendent-informed-school-board-alleged-sexual-assault\/\">allegations<\/a> in Loudoun County Public Schools.<\/p>\n<p><span>CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue \u201cantiracism\u201d through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe left, liberal progressive movement, they\u2019ve inserted political operatives into our school system, disguised as school boards, they shut parents out, and concealed the truth,\u201d Youngkin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngkinforgovernor.com\/post\/remarks-by-glenn-youngkin-at-burke-volunteer-fire-rescue-department\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe must fix this now. Those who are responsible must be fired or resign immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One man who attended the Burke rally, an accountant, explained to the Daily Caller that he is a life-long resident of Northern Virginia. He described his parents as \u201cJFK Democrats,\u201d but watched the party move further to the left over his lifetime. The accountant also cited media bias towards Democrats during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting a debunked story spread by the Rolling Stone <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/05\/hospital-blows-holes-rolling-stone-story\/\">claiming<\/a> that a large number of ivermectin overdoses prevented an Oklahoma hospital from treating gunshot victims.<\/p>\n<p>Another rally-goer&nbsp;complained of Zoom meetings and shutdowns during the pandemic, and expressed concern that \u201cevery American under 50\u201d would experience socialism in their lifetimes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7312159\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"38\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7312159\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA \u2013 OCTOBER 30: Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin greets supporters as he leaves the Old Town Alexandria Farmers Market on October 30, 2021 in Alexandria, Virginia. After The Lincoln Project sent operatives dressed as white supremacists to crash a Youngkin rally, a McAuliffe spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/29\/lincoln-project-takes-responsibility-for-tiki-torch-stunt\/\">asserted<\/a> that Youngkin \u201cembraced white nationalists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Surrogates for McAuliffe have also attempted to tie Youngkin to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. During an Oct. 26 appearance with McAuliffe, Biden implied that Youngkin was just as much an \u201cextremis[t]\u201d as \u201ca mob driven to assault the Capitol.\u201d Former President Barack Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/joe-biden-richmond-barack-obama-virginia-terry-mcauliffe-89a20e17ea129958df4aba0cd34cfd83\">added<\/a> that Youngkin either \u201cbelieves in the same conspiracy theories that resulted in a mob\u201d or \u201cis willing to go along with it\u2026 to get elected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tying Youngkin to Trump and bowling over Virginians with Democratic Party stars like Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, and voting rights activist Stacey Abrams may not have McAuliffe\u2019s desired effect. As Biden\u2019s approval numbers began to drop following the U.S.\u2019s deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan, Youngkin began to climb in the polls.<\/p>\n<p>The strategy also caused McAuliffe to initially ignore, and then mishandle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/10\/30\/key-groups-glenn-youngkin-virginia-517777\">education<\/a>, the number one issue for likely Virginia voters. Among those voters for whom education was the number one issue, Youngkin is leading by nine points, a Washington Post poll found.<\/p>\n<p>Another poll, from Fox News, found Youngkin winning self-identified parents by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/youngkin-beating-mcauliffe-8-points-new-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">14 points<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe that parents should be telling schools what they should teach,\u201d McAuliffe <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/28\/terry-mcauliffe-glenn-youngkin-parents-schools\/\">declared<\/a> at a debate during a discussion about sexually explicit reading materials.
