This is your punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVdDgwcsLul\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" readability=\"-9.6486486486486\"><\/blockquote>\n<p><span><strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The image has been doctored to include the sentence about a \u201cdeadly virus\u201d and the sentence about \u201cpunishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nguyen, the creator of \u201cFlappy Bird,\u201d released the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dotgears.com\/apps\/app_flappy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">popular mobile game<\/a> back in 2013. He explained to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.md\/dtAPS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forbes<\/a> that he removed the game from the App Store and Google Play in February 2014 because it had become an \u201caddictive product\u201d and his life \u201chas not been as comfortable\u201d as before its release.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a viral Instagram post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVdDgwcsLul\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=79b9df56-b13a-402e-9cb9-fe768e07a080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">allegedly shows<\/a> a Feb. 8, 2014, tweet from Nguyen that reads, \u201cI am sorry \u2018Flappy Bird\u2019 users, 22 hours from now, I will take \u2018Flappy Bird\u2019 down. I cannot take this anymore. In 2020 a deadly virus will ravage the globe. This is your punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, contrary to what the image suggests, the \u201cFlappy Bird\u201d creator did not predict the COVID-19 pandemic in that tweet. A search of his Twitter timeline for the phrase \u201cdeadly virus\u201d yields <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%22deadly%20virus%22%20(from%3Adongatory)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no results<\/a>. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dongatory\/status\/432227971173068800?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">actual Feb. 8, 2014 tweet<\/a> where Nguyen announced the removal of \u201cFlappy Bird,\u201d it mentions neither a \u201cdeadly virus\u201d nor \u201cpunishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.9268292682927\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I am sorry \u2018Flappy Bird\u2019 users, 22 hours from now, I will take \u2018Flappy Bird\u2019 down.
