Approximately ten percent of its&nbsp;mainline flights ended up canceled, which in return stranded thousands of passengers.<\/p>\n<p>American COO David Seymour, in an internal memo, said that the airline is&nbsp;\u201cproactively canceling\u201d flights&nbsp;\u201cto provide scheduling certainty for their crews,\u201d which they have had to do \u201cfor the last few days this month.\u201d The report said that \u201c1,800 flight attendants are returning from pandemic time-off\u201d starting Monday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The report insisted that the airlines were struggling with staffing shortages when the \u201cpandemic brought air travel to a near halt in 2020,\u201d noting that \u201cairlines offered staff buyouts, early retirement packages and unpaid leave to cut costs and survive the downturn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, while airline travel is picking up, \u201call the airlines are scrambling to hire employees and bring back as much staff as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The airline unions claim that the \u201cservice disruptions are due to bad management decisions and flawed scheduling systems. And they say that the problems will not end with this weekend\u2019s woes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Capt. Dennis Tajer, an American Airlines pilot and spokesman for the Allied Pilots Association,&nbsp;recently said that the unions are concerned about how the airlines will take care of the surge in passengers over the holiday season this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want that flying to get done, but we don\u2019t want tickets sold that can\u2019t be fulfilled,\u201d he said. \u201cAre they biting off more they can they chew?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
