Ann Williams (D-Chicago) celebrated the vote on Twitter, announcing the bill, titled the Youth Health and Safety Act, now heads to Gov. J.B. Ann Williams (@RepAnnWilliams) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepAnnWilliams\/status\/1453580778269458436?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In June 2019, Pritzker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/06\/12\/illinois-gov-j-b-pritzker-signs-sweeping-bill-allowing-partial-birth-abortion-into-law\/\">signed<\/a> an expansive bill that repealed Illinois\u2019 ban on partial-birth abortion and made abortion at any time during pregnancy a \u201cfundamental right.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Pritzker\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinois.gov\/news\/press-release.20199.html\">said<\/a> at the time the governor was \u201cmaking good on his promise to make Illinois the most progressive state in the nation for women\u2019s reproductive rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Thursday, however, the Catholic Conference of Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilcatholic.org\/cci-statement-on-the-repeal-of-parental-notice-of-abortion-act\/\">condemned<\/a> the vote:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>On behalf of the Illinois\u2019 bishops and our entire Catholic community, the Catholic Conference of Illinois denounces the Illinois General Assembly\u2019s vote to repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. Since 2013, this law has served to keep distressed young girls connected to those who love them the most. The law has also helped to ensure that those who would abuse minor girls cannot then erase the evidence of their crimes in the nearest abortion clinic.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A Tarrance Group poll conducted in March <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dio.org\/uploads\/files\/Social%20Concerns\/Repeal_Parental_Notification\/TarrancePoll_ParentalNotice_March2021.pdf\">found<\/a> when Illinois registered voters were asked if the law should require the parents or guardians of minors seeking an abortion to be notified, 56 percent replied \u201cYes\/Strongly,\u201d and 16 percent said \u201cYes,\u201d while 16 percent responded \u201cNo\/Strongly,\u201d and 6 percent said \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.309352517986\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I am so sad that the General Assembly chose to remove the Parental Notification of Abortion Act. PNA is a commonsense law that protects minor girls, protects parental rights, and sometimes even protects unborn children.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Molly Malone Rumley (@amending_Molly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/amending_Molly\/status\/1454084855583625220?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe results of this poll could not be more crystal-clear,\u201d Illinois Right to Life Executive Director Amy Gehrke&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/illinoisrighttolife.org\/new-poll-results-reveal-wide-public-support-of-parental-notice-of-abortion-act\/\">said<\/a> when the overwhelming support for the law was revealed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>She added:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>A vast majority of Illinoisans believe that parents should be notified when their minor daughters wish to have an abortion. As the mother of two daughters, I would have been devastated if one of my girls went through a life altering and emotionally devastating abortion with only those who seek to profit from it to support them. Obviously, the majority of Illinois residents agree.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.463414634146\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here in IL, we&#8217;re going into the weekend knowing that 62 of our state reps and 32 of our state senators chose to protect the ability of sexual predators to cover their crimes with abortion over the right of parents to be involved in their children&#8217;s healthcare. We pray for the day when every human life may be cherished from conception to natural death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/20\/planned-parenthood-sues-south-carolina-over-heartbeat-abortion-law\/\">profits<\/a> from abortion, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/illinois-abortion-law-parental-notification-house\/11175926\/\">celebrated<\/a> the vote, ABC News reported Thursday:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p>By passing the Youth Health and Safety Act, Illinois has ensured that young people can choose to involve the people they trust in their health care decisions and are protected from harmful domestic situations and unnecessary judicial interactions. In short, all Illinoisans, regardless of age, now have the full legal autonomy to make decisions about what\u2019s best for their bodies.
