Tesla CEO Elon Musk hopes it stays that way.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Elon Musk responded to a Fox News report detailing the aftermath of Austin\u2019s decision to defund its police department in response to the Black Lives Matter protests last summer and whether or not the city will continue its policy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAustin should be its city, not a&nbsp;San Francisco&nbsp;copycat,\u201d the billionaire tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.5154639175258\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Austin should be its city, not a San Francisco copycat<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1454894791444111360?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The city of Austin will vote on two propositions for the coming November 2 election, which would determine the number of officers policing the city.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cProposition A, a ballot measure for the Nov. 2 election backed by the group Save Austin Now, would require at least two Austin police officers for every 1,000 residents and would provide officers with an additional 40 hours of police training each year on topics such as weapons proficiency and active shooter scenarios,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/austin-texas-defunded-its-police-department-now-voters-will-decide-if-city-needs-more-officers\">reported<\/a> Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Austin City Council voted to cut $150 million from its police department to fund other services. (Photo by Justin Sullivan\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAccording to statistics compiled by the data analysis firm AH Datalytics, the city has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/datastudio.google.com\/embed\/u\/0\/reporting\/133bc335-b4e9-41f4-890d-3adb7de5a141\/page\/QX9NC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seen<\/a> a nearly 71% increase in homicides&nbsp;over the past year,\u201d reported Fox News. \u201cWhile homicides have increased nationwide since 2020, Austin\u2019s increase is one of the largest the firm has tracked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk\u2019s newfound passion to save Austin from becoming a leftist sinkhole comes after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/tesla-annual-meeting-austin-texas\">announced<\/a> this month that he would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/west\/california\">moving<\/a> Tesla headquarters from the city of Fremont, California, to Austin, Texas,&nbsp;in part because of the cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough for people to afford houses and a lot of people have to come in from far away,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/tesla-annual-meeting-austin-texas\">said&nbsp;<\/a>during Tesla\u2019s annual stockholder\u2019s meeting. \u201cWe\u2019ve taken it as far as possible but \u2026 there\u2019s a limit to how big you can scale it in the Bay Area.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHere in Austin, our factory\u2019s like five minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from downtown, and we\u2019re going to create an ecological paradise here because we\u2019re right on the Colorado River,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk rocked the halls of the Twitterverse last year&nbsp;when he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1262789254117314560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1262789254117314560%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Felon-musk-cancel-cancel-culture\">said<\/a>, \u201ctake the red pill\u201d and \u201ccancel cancel culture\u201d with no further clarification.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"4.7796610169492\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">More fun, less shun!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1262789254117314560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Prior to his infamous \u201cred pill\u201d tweet, Musk had been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-pushes-reopening-in-series-of-tweets-free-america-now\">urging<\/a> governors&nbsp;to reopen the economy and even went as far as to call the coronavirus lockdown orders \u201cfascist.\u201d He also expressed opposition to a second economic stimulus while expressing his support for universal basic income (UBI).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a reminder, I\u2019m in *favor* of universal basic income,\u201d&nbsp;he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/elon-musk-another-government-stimulus-package-is-not-in-the-best-interests-of-the-people-2020-07-24\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cGoal of government should be to maximize the happiness of the people. Giving each person money allows them to decide what meets their needs, rather than the blunt tool of legislation, which creates self-serving special interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother government stimulus package is not in the best interests of the people imo,\u201d he continued. \u201cThese are jammed to gills with special interests earmarks.
