He\u2019s a man who understands that part of his Christianity is to reach out and forgive,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden surprised the Catholic world after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/29\/joe-biden-pope-francis-told-me-i-was-a-good-catholic-and-to-keep-receiving-communion\/\">revealed<\/a> details of his private audience with the pope, claiming the pontiff told him he was a \u201cgood Catholic\u201d and should keep receiving communion. The Vatican declined to detail the pope\u2019s comments, citing the private nature of the conversation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Biden publicly supports the right for a woman to abort her unborn child, and publicly voices his opposition to Catholic teaching that life begins at conception.<\/p>\n<p>The president did not talk about abortion, but expressed his feelings about Pope Francis and his papacy.<\/p>\n<p>Biden said he favored Pope Francis\u2019 \u201cWho am I to judge?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/07\/30\/world\/europe\/pope-francis-gay-priests.html\">comment<\/a> about homosexuals to reporters after he was elected pope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s always been debate in the church going back to Pope John XXIII about reaching out and embracing people with differences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden also revealed the details of another private conversation he had with Pope Francis after he was elected president.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen I won he called me to tell me how much he appreciated the fact that I would focus on the poor and focus on the needs of people who were in trouble,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden also recalled when he \u201clost the real part of his soul\u201d after his son Beau Biden died and that he took a lot of comfort from the pope during his visit to Philadelphia, PA in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled the pope met personally with his family to comfort them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPope Francis has become someone who has provided great solace for my family when my son died,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden concluded that Pope Francis was working to establish \u201cpeace and decency and honor\u201d in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s just a fine decent honorable man.
