By dismissing the crimes as \u201clocal,\u201d the NYT absolves itself&nbsp; \u2013 and any other liberal outlet that chooses to follow suit \u2013 of any responsibility to even acknowledge that the crime took place. It also provides cover for the NYT to criticize outlets that do cover the crime, accusing them of doing so for political reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point is the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/new-york-times-mentions-loudoun-county-sexual-assault-case-first-time\/?utm_source=piano&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=2906&amp;pnespid=t6E_DjsZJKMLwqTRpzC9CsjX5h2wX4ApdeO3wOhvqABmgWbQ6mo0YeveaCdEvquGbl3N7ebG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NYT\u2019s response<\/a> to the school-bathroom rape that rocked Virginia just weeks ahead of a gubernatorial election, which many had already suggested could be a bellwether.<\/p>\n<p>On May 28 in a Loudoun County public school, a biologically-male student wearing a skirt raped a female student in the women\u2019s restroom. The male student in question was found guilty of the rape in October. Superintendent <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/13\/loudon-county-public-schools-girls-bathroom-sexual-assault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Ziegler<\/a> denied any knowledge of assaults during a public hearing about the district\u2019s transgender bathroom policy days later despite a recently released email that showed he was aware and had notified the school board on the day the assault occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Following initial reports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/exclusive-loudoun-schools-did-not-record-multiple-alleged-sexual-assaults-over-a-period-of-years-despite-state-law-records-show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Rosiak<\/a> of the Daily Wire, a number of outlets followed up on the story and many questioned whether the school board had <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/12\/dana-loesch-torches-loudoun-county-school-board-rape-cover-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">intentionally engaged<\/a> in a coverup to protect the district\u2019s transgender bathroom policy from further scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NYT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/new-york-times-mentions-loudoun-county-sexual-assault-case-first-time\/?utm_source=piano&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=2906&amp;pnespid=t6E_DjsZJKMLwqTRpzC9CsjX5h2wX4ApdeO3wOhvqABmgWbQ6mo0YeveaCdEvquGbl3N7ebG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">response<\/a>, which was not published until after the male student had been found guilty of the crime, was to frame the case as if the important issue was not the rape of a teenage girl but rather the fact that Republicans were using it to make a political point about the district\u2019s preferred bathroom policies.<\/p>\n<p>The article referred to the situation as \u201ca sexual assault case that revived Republican criticism of gender-inclusive bathroom policies in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article also suggested that the NYT\u2019s failure to cover the story was not born of negligence or politics, complaining that conservative outlets had \u201clavished national attention on local events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Loudoun County rape case is not the first example of liberal media outlets like the NYT ignoring crimes and dismissing them as \u201clocal stories\u201d \u2013 particularly when a political sacred cow is at risk.<\/p>\n<p>The most famous case in recent history would be the gruesome tale of Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, who performed numerous illegal late-term abortions and even kept jars with preserved aborted fetal body parts in his home.<\/p>\n<p>Gosnell, who many conservatives referred to as one of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/06\/29\/dean-cain-gosnell-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prolific serial killers<\/a> in history, shined a light on the culture surrounding abortion \u2013 especially late-term abortion \u2013 and liberal media coverage of the investigation, arrest and trial was almost nonexistent. <strong><a class=\"text-black\" href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/09\/14\/thousands-fetal-remains-abortionist\/\">(RELATED: Over 2,000 Fetal Remains Found On Late Abortion Doctor\u2019s Property, Sheriff\u2019s Office Says)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In fact, while Gosnell was on trial, there were a number of days when reporters just plain didn\u2019t show up.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.4093264248705\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Criminal negligence, Philly press. Police-involved shootings, for instance \u2013 particularly when the person who is shot happens to be black \u2013 often garner national news coverage long before the facts of the case are even known.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHands up, don\u2019t shoot,\u201d made national headlines and cable news long before a local investigation determined that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/08\/cori-bush-michael-brown-obama-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Brown<\/a> had not been running away from Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson when he was shot. A second investigation was later undertaken by former President Barack Obama\u2019s then Attorney General Eric Holder, only to reach the same conclusion as the first.<\/p>\n<p>The same thing happened when Minneapolis police officer <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/10\/defund-the-police-george-floyd-black-lives-matter-officers-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derek Chauvin<\/a> knelt on George Floyd\u2019s neck for over nine minutes, failing to release him even after he lost consciousness.
