The image has been fabricated, an editor from the publication said.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Minecraft is a popular brick-building game that Microsoft purchased for $2.5 billion in 2014, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2014\/09\/15\/technology\/minecraft-microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a>. Users have constructed things ranging from the Taj Mahal to the entire city of Manhattan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazing-things-people-made-in-minecraft-2014-9#why-stop-at-the-empire-state-building-when-you-can-make-a-replica-of-all-of-manhattan-computer-science-phd-student-christopher-mitchell-is-developing-a-11-model-of-manhattan-inside-minecraft-its-unbelievably-detailed-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business Insider<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>In recent days, social media users have been sharing a supposed Anchorage Daily News article that puts up the headline: \u201cVirginia man arrested for having minecraft worlds that were exact replicas of classified US military bases.\u201d The alleged article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVmNybOFsA8\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=ef4cc059-3979-4df4-99bf-72965991d131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">includes<\/a> a picture of a man and of what look like military vehicles made in Minecraft.<\/p>\n<p>A review of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anchorage Daily News website<\/a>, however, did not turn up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=site%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.adn.com%2F+virginia+man+minecraft&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS850US850&amp;ei=aYV9YeeyMNTOytMPtOOPwA4&amp;oq=site%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.adn.com%2F+virginia+man+minecraft&amp;gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAM6BwgAEEcQsANKBAhBGABQ8DBY8DBg_jJoAXACeACAATGIATGSAQExmAEAoAEByAEIwAEB&amp;sclient=gws-wiz&amp;ved=0ahUKEwini-bn2PLzAhVUp3IEHbTxA-gQ4dUDCA4&amp;uact=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">any articles<\/a> matching the one shown in the Instagram post. Nor does the purported story appear on the reporter\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adn.com\/author\/morgan-krakow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">author page<\/a>. An article with that headline also hasn\u2019t been posted on the outlet\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?lang=en&amp;q=Minecraft%20(from:adndotcom)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">verified<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/anchoragedailynews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/anchoragedailynews\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a real article \u2013 it\u2019s 100% fabricated,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adn.com\/author\/david-hulen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Hulen<\/a>, an editor at Anchorage Daily News, confirmed to Check Your Fact in an email. \u201cIt looks like our site but it is fabricated.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/03\/11\/fact-check-minecraft-shutting-down-december\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Is Minecraft Shutting Down In December?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The doctored image was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.md\/22xzL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previously posted<\/a> on iFunny, a website where users can share internet memes and other images, a reverse image search showed.
