If an exemption is granted, they will be reimbursed by the city.<\/p>\n<p>The initial deadline was October 20. However, recent data from the mayor\u2019s office indicated 72.8% of city employees had reported being partially or fully vaccinated. The original ordinance was passed in August, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-10-26\/unvaccinated-l-a-city-workers-will-have-more-time-to-get-the-shots\">according<\/a> to The Los Angeles Times, \u201c[t]hose rules became conditions of city employment last week, but the law did not spell out what would happen, at the time, to people who refused to get vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Employees who have not requested an exemption or already provided evidence of vaccination must \u201cshow proof of full compliance\u201d by December 18, <a href=\"https:\/\/clkrep.lacity.org\/onlinedocs\/2021\/21-0921_misc_4_10-19-2021.pdf.pdf\">the updated plan says<\/a>, adding, failure to comply with the requirements \u201cshall result in appropriate and immediate corrective action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployees must be vaccinated by December 18, and we are putting a rigorous testing program into place in the meantime,\u201d said Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti in a statement issued last week. \u201cLet me be clear: any employee who refuses to be vaccinated by this date should be prepared to lose their job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council members voted 13-0 to approve the new rules. Mayoral candidate Joe Buscaino did not attend the meeting, and fellow Democrat Mark Ridley-Thomas has been barred from voting on items.
