The bill will become law pending Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds\u2019 signature.<\/p>\n<p>Reynolds has expressed support for the bill and has previously expressed support for the vaccine but opposition to the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe the vaccine is the best defense against COVID-19 and we\u2019ve provided Iowans with the information they need to determine what\u2019s best for themselves and their families, but no Iowan should be forced to lose their job or livelihood over the COVID-19 vaccine,\u201d Reynolds said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.iowa.gov\/press-release\/gov-reynolds-releases-statement-in-support-of-legislation-to-protect-iowans%E2%80%99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>. \u201cToday the legislature passed a bipartisan bill that prohibits employers from denying employees\u2019 religious and medical exemptions related to this vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7311563\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"37\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7311563\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DAVENPORT, IOWA \u2013 OCTOBER 31: Iowa Gov. This legislation also gives employees the assurance that they will still receive unemployment benefits despite being fired for stand up for their beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some individuals, however, think the bill isn\u2019t doing enough to protect Iowans, according to the Des Moines Register.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to push back on the government, now is the time to prove that you actually have a gumption to do that,\u201d a lobbyist for Informed Choice Iowa Brei Johnson said, according to the Des Moines Register.<\/p>\n<p>Typically workers who are fired for not complying with a vaccination policy do not qualify for unemployment benefits in most states, according to the report. While businesses can require employees to be vaccinated without violating federal law, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/wysk\/what-you-should-know-about-covid-19-and-ada-rehabilitation-act-and-other-eeo-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">did note<\/a> employers need to make \u201creasonable accommodations\u201d for employees who choose not to get the vaccine due to a medical or religious reason.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic State Rep. Bruce Hunter said the bill is \u201cproblematic\u201d and will \u201cbe a burden on the unemployment trust fund and it\u2019s not solving any problems it\u2019s purporting to solve,\u201d according to the Des Moines Register. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/joe-biden-first-responders-police-refuse-vaccine-mandates-fired\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden Says First Responders, Police Who REfuse Vaccine Mandates Should Be Fired)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Biden Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/09\/joe-biden-require-private-companies-100-more-employees-mandate-vaccines-weekly-testing-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> in September that all employers with 100 or more employees must require employees to get vaccinated or be subject to weekly testing.
