Richard Burr called his brother-in-law, a Trump administration appointee, shortly before both men sold large amounts of stocks ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, new court filings from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) allege.<\/p>\n<p>Burr <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/03\/19\/loeffler-burr-senator-sell-stocks-coronavirus\/\">sold<\/a> $1.6 million in stocks in February 2020 following a senators-only meeting on the projected impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his brother-in-law, Gerald <a href=\"https:\/\/nmb.gov\/NMB_Application\/index.php\/board-members-1\/\">Fauth<\/a>, the chairman&nbsp; of the National Mediation Board, sold between $97,000 and $280,000. Fauth made the trades immediately after speaking with Burr on the phone for about 50 seconds, according to the filings, first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/burrs-brother-in-law-called-stock-broker-one-minute-after-getting-off-phone-with-senator\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;Thursday by ProPublica.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.245674740484\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: SEC says Sen. Richard Burr had material nonpublic info re COVID economic impact.<\/p>\n<p>After Burr dumped stock, he called his brother-in-law.<\/p>\n<p>His brother-in-law called his stock broker **the next minute** <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EiXjZ4oPS4\">https:\/\/t.co\/EiXjZ4oPS4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Robert Faturechi (@RobertFaturechi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobertFaturechi\/status\/1453754914266497025?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fauth called two brokers to execute the trades after speaking with Burr, according to ProPublica, since the first one was unavailable to order them. The SEC is investigating both men for insider trading due to the trades, and Fauth is fighting a subpoena as part of the investigation, according to the filings.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice (DOJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/19\/north-carolina-sen-richard-burr-will-not-be-charged-for-stock-trades\/\">decided<\/a> in January against charging Burr with insider trading, following a months-long investigation. As part of the investigation, the senator\u2019s phone was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/05\/13\/richard-burr-fbi-investigation-stocks\/\">seized<\/a> by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Burr has <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/03\/20\/richard-burr-responds-stocks-private-coronavirus-meeting\/\">denied<\/a> wrongdoing, claiming that he made the trades off of publicly-available information. His office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Burr publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.burr.senate.gov\/press\/releases\/op-ed-sen-alexander-and-sen-burr-coronavirus-prevention-steps-the-us-government-is-taking-to-protect-you\">claimed<\/a> that Americans should not worry about the emerging coronavirus, arguing that \u201cthe United States today is better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats\u201d because of \u201cthe response framework Congress has put in place to ensure we are prepared for disease outbreaks.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/03\/19\/loeffler-burr-senator-sell-stocks-coronavirus\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Senators Loeffler And Burr Caught Dumping Their Stocks After Private Meeting On Coronavirus Impact)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Burr was one of several senators who were investigated for stock trades shortly before the U.S. shut down to combat the virus. Republican Georgia Sens. Kelly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/03\/19\/loeffler-burr-senator-sell-stocks-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Loeffler<\/a> and David <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/andrewsolender\/2020\/11\/25\/sen-david-perdue-faces-renewed-scrutiny-over-stock-trades\/?sh=53105f4057a3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Perdue<\/a>, Republican Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe and Democratic California Sen.
