Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/fb_image-3903.jpeg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p>WASHINGTON (Reuters)\u2014Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives said they would not vote on Thursday on a bipartisan<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;<\/span>plan as their leaders had suggested after progressives balked.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker Nancy Pelosi said late on Thursday that the House will postpone the vote on the<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">bill&nbsp;<\/span>pending in the U.S. Congress, but added that most members of the House had expressed a commitment to support the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the Biden administration was confident that the<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">bill&nbsp;<\/span>and a more complicated spending measure for social spending and tackling climate change would soon be passed by Congress.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Joe Biden earlier on Thursday presented a $1.75 trillion plan for climate measures, preschool and other social initiatives that he said unified Democrats, but some members of his party quickly rebuffed it.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of progressive Democrats in the House opposed a quick vote on a $1 trillion<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">bill&nbsp;<\/span>until agreement is reached on a larger social spending<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;bill<\/span>, their leader said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi earlier in the day had urged Democrats to vote Thursday to pass the<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">bill<\/span>, giving Biden a legislative victory.<\/p>\n<p>But Representative Pramila Jayapal, the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said the group was holding out for more of Biden&#8217;s agenda to be ready to pass.<\/p>\n<p>Progressives had long said they would not vote for the<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">bill<\/span>, which passed the Senate with bipartisan support in August, until the details of the larger<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;bill&nbsp;<\/span>\u2013 once targeted at $3.5 trillion \u2013 were worked out.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats said the vote on the temporary transportation funding<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">&nbsp;bill&nbsp;<\/span>would be the chamber&#8217;s last vote of the week.<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting by Kanishka Singh and Tim Ahmann; Editing by Mohammad Zargham and Cynthia Osterman)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (Reuters)\u2014Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives said they would not vote on Thursday on a bipartisan\u00a0infrastructure\u00a0plan as their leaders had suggested after progressives balked.
