Our review of the activities of the company, and its subsidiary Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s, found they engaged in BDS activities under our pension fund\u2019s policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Brooklyn state Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who served with DiNapoli in the state assembly, lauded the decision, saying, \u201cThis is wonderful news. God bless Tom DiNapoli. \u2026 BDS equals anti-Semitism and Comptroller DiNapoli&nbsp; stood up against hate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In late July, Dinapoli\u2019s director of corporate governance, Liz Gordon, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/07\/23\/ny-pension-fund-puts-unilever-on-notice-for-ben-jerrys-sales-ban\/\">warned<\/a> Unilever CEO Alan Jope, \u201cThe Fund views BDS activities as a potential threat to Israel, its economy, and, as a result, the Fund\u2019s relevant investments. Further, a number of U.S. states have acted or are considering actions to penalize companies that engage in such behavior. \u2026 As a result, companies that engage in BDS activities may face legal, reputational and financial risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Post reported, \u201cJOPE gave a circular response on August 4 defending Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s actions, saying it doesn\u2019t intervene in actions taken by the \u2018independent\u2019 boards or the \u2018social mission\u2019 of its brands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He wrote, \u201cUnilever has a strong and longstanding commitment to our business in Israel. We employ nearly 2,000 people in the country across our four factories and head office, and we have invested approximately $250 million in the Israeli market over the last decade. \u2026 On this decision, it was no different.
