(Photo by JOSH EDELSON \/ AFP) (Photo by JOSH EDELSON\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/10\/27\/report-ftc-investigates-facebook-over-disclosures-of-platforms-negative-effects-on-teens\/\">recently reported<\/a> that FTC staffers have begun investigating disclosures that Facebook\u2019s internal company research identified negative effects from its products. Officials are reportedly investigating if the Facebook research documents indicate that the company violated a $5 billion settlement it made with the FTC in 2019 over privacy concerns.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>A company-wide email on Tuesday reportedly ordered all Facebook staff to \u201cpreserve internal documents and communications since 2016,\u201d in a strategy known as a \u201clegal hold.\u201d Employees were informed that encrypted messages should be kept and the legal hold should not be discussed on the company\u2019s internal message board.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the divisions that appear to be immune to the legal hold include WhatsApp, the augmented reality studio Spark AR and the New Product Experimentation group, an internal incubator for new projects.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/09\/29\/wsj-facebooks-ambitions-with-preteen-audience-goes-far-beyond-instagram-for-kids\/\">reported extensively<\/a>&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/facebook-documents-instagram-teens-11632953840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">\u201cFacebook Files\u201d series from the&nbsp;<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;which made a number of damning claims about the tech giant based on a series of internal company documents.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/09\/17\/wsj-facebooks-efforts-to-create-a-healthier-platform-failed-spectacularly\/\">claimed&nbsp;that Facebook\u2019s newsfeed algorithm<\/a>&nbsp;saw a major change in 2018 that appeared to promote outrageous and negative content on the platform. When informed of this, top executives including CEO Mark Zuckerberg were allegedly hesitant to solve the issue.<\/p>\n<p>The internal documents also appear to reveal that the tech giant Apple threatened to remove Facebook from its App Store in 2019 following a&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-50228549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">report from BBC News<\/a>&nbsp;that detailed the human trafficking taking place across the social media platform.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most damning reports was titled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/09\/14\/wsj-facebooks-internal-documents-show-company-knows-instagram-is-terrible-for-teen-girls\/\">\u201cFacebook Knows Instagram Is Toxic for Teen Girls, Company Documents Show,\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;in which the <em>Journal<\/em> claims that Facebook is aware that its photo-sharing app Instagram can have a negative effect on the body image of young women.<\/p>\n<p>Read more at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10139721\/Facebook-tells-staff-communication-documents-dating-2016-inquiries-begin.html\"><em>Daily Mail<\/em> here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Lucas Nolan is a reporter for Breitbart News covering issues of free speech and online censorship.
