Lucy McBath\u2019s (D-GA) red flag legislation on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/2377\/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22Federal+Extreme+Risk+Protection+Order+Act%22%7D\">H.R. 2377<\/a>, authorizes the seizure of firearms via the <em>ex parte<\/em> issuance of Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>H.R. 2377 stipulates that individuals can request ERPOs at no cost to themselves and the text of the bill does not require that the respondents of ERPOs commit crimes to justify issuance. Rather, the ERPOs are issued on the basis that a judge believes \u201cthe respondent poses a risk&nbsp;of imminent personal injury to himself or herself, or another individual, by purchasing, possessing, or receiving a firearm or ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) called out the Democrat\u2019s red flag legislation,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/steube.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/steube-stands-second-amendment-opposes-red-flag-laws\">pointing out<\/a>&nbsp;that it\u201d[allows] an individual to petition a court to have an individual\u2019s firearms and ammunition confiscated without alleging any criminal activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steube <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepGregSteube\/status\/1453481637937762304?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1453481637937762304%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D18504450action%3Dedit\">tweeted<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.586102719033\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Red flag laws do nothing to prevent crime, and implementing them unconstitutionally strips law-abiding citizens of their firearms. Moody.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3316573\">the study<\/a>, \u201cRed flag laws had no significant effect on murder, suicide, the number of people killed in mass public shootings, robbery, aggravated assault, or burglary. There is some evidence that rape rates rise.
