Steve Daines (R-MT) told Breitbart News in an exclusive statement Wednesday that Saule Omarova\u2019s support of Communist ideals disqualifies her from becoming the next Comptroller of the Currency.<\/p>\n<p>Biden tapped Cornell Law Professor Saule Omarova to serve as the next Comptroller of the Currency. Pat Toomey (R-PA), the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, noted that Omarova wrote her university thesis on Marxism while at Moscow State University in 1989, titled, \u201cKarl Marx\u2019s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution in The Capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carney said that Omarova <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3715735\">wrote<\/a> in an October 2021 article for the&nbsp;<em>Vanderbilt<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Law Review<\/em>, \u201cThe People\u2019s Ledger How to Democratize Money and Finance the Economy.\u201d The article calls to eliminate all community banking and transfer all bank deposits to \u201cFedAccounts\u201d at the Federal Reserve.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The elimination of community banks would especially harm small businesses, farmers, and other local businesses because community banks focus on \u201crelationship banking.\u201d Carney explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p>Despite holding only 15 percent of total industry loans in 2019, community banks funded&nbsp;roughly 31 percent of farm sector debt in 2019, with half of that total financed by community-bank agricultural specialists, according to the FDIC. They held 36 percent of the banking industry\u2019s small business loans in 2019, the FDIC found. Thirty percent of CRE loans, mortgages on commercial property, are held by community banks, FDIC data show.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Daines, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, told Breitbart News that Omarova\u2019s \u201cradical\u201d policies disqualify her from the position and called on Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), another member of the Banking Committee, to oppose her confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden\u2019s pick for the nation\u2019s top banking regulator proves just how far left this Administration is willing to go. Omarova\u2019s radical past and support of communist ideals is incredibly troubling,\u201d Daines told Breitbart News. \u201cShe is clearly out of step with Montana, and I would hope the senior Senator from Montana will also oppose her nomination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tester\u2019s vote to confirm Omarova for the OCC and subsequent confirmation could jeopardize Montana\u2019s community banking industry and the businesses that rely on those regional banks.<\/p>\n<p>Daines\u2019 position follows as the Montana Independent Bankers (MIB) wrote to Tester and Daines calling on Montana\u2019s senators to oppose Biden\u2019s \u201cradical\u201d nominee.<\/p>\n<p>MIB president Andrew West wrote to Tester and Daines,&nbsp;\u201cMs. Omarova\u2019s positions are antithetical to the economic principles that have long-guided this nation\u2019s monetary policies and systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toomey said in a recent Senate floor speech, \u201cThere\u2019s a lot that\u2019s extraordinary and radical here\u2014but maybe the heart of it is that Ms. Omarova doesn\u2019t just want tightened regulation of banks.
