White.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAs a co-creator and executive producer, I was involved in all aspects of the show \u2014 from its creation, to its script, to the casting decisions, format, and final cuts,\u201d he said. \u201cThe format and structure of the show became critically important because one of my goals was to tell a great story without ambiguity as to the messaging behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Series director Ava DuVernay&nbsp;described Kaepernick\u2019s involvement as \u201ccreating sculpture together with every fingerprint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Colin in Black &amp; White,&nbsp;<\/em>which debuts Friday, focuses on the football player\u2019s boyhood as the adopted son of white parents, living in a predominantly white neighborhood.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>Watch below:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=ej42P9FTwZg&#038;feature=oembed\">https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=ej42P9FTwZg&amp;feature=oembed<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had important goals I wanted to achieve in telling this part of my story,\u201d Kaepernick told the <em>Times<\/em>. \u201cI wanted to create a scripted series around my high school years that addressed race and racism head-on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Netflix does not always grant such creative power to the real-world subjects of its dramatic shows.<\/p>\n<p>The streamer got into trouble over its portrayal of&nbsp;former New York City prosecutor Linda Fairstein in <em>When They See Us<\/em>, the 2019 limited series about the Central Park jogger case.&nbsp;Fairstein <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/08\/12\/nolte-judge-says-ex-prosecutor-can-sue-ava-duvernay-for-defamation-over-netflix-doc-when-they-see-us\/\">has sued the streamer and director DuVernay,<\/a> alleging they defamed her by portraying her as racist and unethical.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix\u2019s <em>The Crown<\/em> has also upset some members of the royal family, who had no creative input into the Emmy-winning series.
