And it is very concerning. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s quite a Sputnik moment, but I think it\u2019s very close to that. It has all of our attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 1957 Soviet satellite launch of Sputnik shocked Americans, who feared that the Soviets were pulling ahead in technological ability,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-59072616?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Bbbc.news.twitter%5D-%5Bheadline%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D&amp;at_campaign=64&amp;at_custom1=%5Bpost+type%5D&amp;at_custom4=ADB85B78-3787-11EC-902B-828D4744363C&amp;at_custom3=%40BBCWorld&amp;at_custom2=twitter&amp;at_medium=custom7\">BBC<\/a> recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Milley also stated of China, \u201cThey\u2019re expanding rapidly \u2014 in space, in cyber and then in the traditional domains of land, sea and air. And they have gone from a peasant-based infantry army that was very, very large in 1979 to a very capable military that covers all the domains and has global ambitions. \u2026 As we go forward \u2014 over the next 10, 20, 25 years \u2014 there\u2019s no question in my mind that the biggest geostrategic challenge to the United States is gonna be China. They\u2019ve developed a military that\u2019s really significant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Milley theorized that official defense spending figures regarding China\u2019s military buildup did not accurately reflect how strong it was, saying, \u201cYou gotta zero out to the cost of labor. Chinese military troops are not anywhere close to the level of expense\u201d of a U.S. soldier. \u201cSo, zero that out.
