When gasoline becomes more expensive, the people that it truly hurts are those that are less fortunate.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Since July, energy prices have skyrocketed in the U.S. and abroad with both oil and natural gas hitting&nbsp;multi-year&nbsp;highs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>GOP lawmakers have turned up the heat on the Biden administration, repeatedly slamming it for rising energy prices that consumers have experienced recently.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy hosted roundtables in his office on both Tuesday and Wednesday where energy industry leaders, local officials and his fellow House Republicans sniped at Democrats, blaming them for increased costs hitting Americans. The officials also took aim at climate provisions included in the pending $3.5 trillion budget bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that\u2019s becoming more expensive than gasoline today,\u201d McCarthy said on Wednesday. \u201cAnd it doesn\u2019t have to be the case. When gasoline becomes more expensive, the people that it truly hurts are those that are less fortunate, those that have less money. It literally takes food away from their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we look to Thanksgiving coming up, it\u2019s going to be the most expensive Thanksgiving in history for Americans,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut the real challenge is happening here. It\u2019s the policies of this new administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since July, energy prices have skyrocketed in the U.S. and abroad with both oil and natural gas hitting&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/commodities\/oil-price?type=wti\">multi-year<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/ng\/hist\/rngwhhdm.htm\">highs<\/a>. Heating costs may even tick up as much as 54% for Americans this winter and could be even higher depending on how cold it gets, the EIA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/outlooks\/steo\/report\/WinterFuels.php\">projected<\/a> on Oct. 13. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/26\/americans-climate-change-joe-biden-democrats-budget\/\">(RELATED: Americans Believe Climate Change Is Happening But Are Only Willing To Pay $1 In Carbon Tax, Poll Shows)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, gasoline prices rose again Wednesday, reaching a national average of $3.39 per gallon, <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">according<\/a> to a AAA database, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/gasoline-prices-california-energy-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">soaring<\/a> past $7.50 per gallon in some areas. Garret Graves said. \u201cThis is what we\u2019re seeing right now as a result of executive orders, as a result of policy decisions. With the reconciliation package, they are trying to come in and double and triple down on the strategies that have caused higher price.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden has made <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/19\/developing-world-united-nations-climate-change-funds\/\">solving climate change<\/a> a top priority and, as a result, has aimed to curb the U.S. fossil fuel industry\u2019s influence. But the White House has also turned to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/11\/white-house-opec-energy-oil-gas-keystone\/\">Middle Eastern<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/25\/russia-natural-gas-exports-weapon-nord-stream-2-joe-biden-white-house\/\">Russian<\/a> producers of oil and natural gas for reprieve from surging energy costs.<\/p>\n<p>The House Republicans who participated in McCarthy\u2019s hearings this week further argued that energy has become a national security issue because of the American economy\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/19\/energy-independence-united-states-joe-biden-american-petroleum-institute\/\">growing dependence<\/a> on foreign powers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a member of the House Armed Services Committee, this is actually a national security issue at this point,\u201d Oklahoma Rep. Stephanie Bice said on Wednesday. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/27\/democrats-ro-khanna-carolyn-maloney-oversight-committee-big-oil-disinformation\/\">(RELATED: Democrats To Begin Year-Long Investigation Into Big Oil \u2018Disinformation\u2019 Campaign)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She noted that besides growing reliance on foreign energy, cumbersome U.S. regulations on rare Earth mineral mining have hindered American companies and favored those abroad. Such metals are key for a range of technology including renewable energy products, CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/04\/17\/the-new-us-plan-to-rival-chinas-dominance-in-rare-earth-metals.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm suggested that tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, an emergency 714 million barrel oil depot controlled by the U.S. government, was an option for reducing prices, the Financial Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/42c9f6c3-ad59-42a3-b9c2-1d79850f96af\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> on Oct. 6. Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/10\/22\/remarks-by-president-biden-in-a-cnn-town-hall-with-anderson-cooper-2\/#:~:text=so%20there%E2%80%99s%20%E2%80%94%20there%20%E2%80%94%20but%20i%20don%E2%80%99t%20%E2%80%94%20i%20must%20tell%20you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> the federal government could tap into the reserve during a town hall last week, but added that such a move would only decrease the price of gasoline by about $0.18 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe answer is very straightforward and it\u2019s right under our feet,\u201d Republican Whip Steve Scalise said Tuesday when asked about the Biden administration mulling potentially tapping into the emergency reserve. \u201cThere\u2019s energy all throughout America, we saw with the shale revolution and with other advances in American technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of trying to drain what\u2019s left of our reserves, we ought to be producing more energy and creating more jobs here in America,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
