It\u2019s completely irrelevant. You need to be vaccinated to keep yourself safe and to keep others safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the way Australia is going about handling COVID \u2014 with insanity \u2014the statement appeared to correlate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But a leaked email from the Women\u2019s Tennis Association obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BenRothenberg\/status\/1452352307316895747?s=20\">The New York Times<\/a> is throwing the Open\u2019s vaccine requirements into doubt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel the need to reach out to you all to clear up false and misleading information that has recently been spread by other parties about the conditions the players will be forced to endure at next year\u2019s Australian Open,\u201d the WTA statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/sport\/tennis\/unvaccinated-players-welcome-at-australian-open-but-under-strict-conditions-20211025-p592sf.html?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1635121022-1\">read<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The email went on to outline the procedure for fully vaccinated players, saying that they can arrive at the tournament any time after December 1, and \u201cmust have a negative test within 72 hours of departure, [and] must test within 24 hours of arrival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to what Victoria\u2019s premier said last week, unvaccinated players appear to be allowed to enter the tournament, but with different requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Players] can arrive any time after December 1st, but will be subject to two weeks\u2019 hard quarantine,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Players] must have a negative test within 72 hours of departure, are required to go through mandatory hotel quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, [and] must submit to regular testing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin Pakula \u2014 the Victoria state sports minister \u2014 said they are still deciding whether unvaccinated players will be allowed into Australia, telling a local radio station \u201cIt\u2019s not settled.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The decision could have a major impact on interest for the tournament, as one of the best players in the world on the men\u2019s side of the bracket has not announced whether or not he is fully vaccinated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Novak Djokovic \u2014 the number one player in the world \u2014 is coming off a season in which he won three of the four majors, including the 2021 Australian Open.
